Rise of the ATMs!
« on: June 16, 2011, 12:47:48 PM »
It's those damn ATMs and airport kiosks!  They're phucking up the economy!!!

Quote
There are some structural issues with our economy where a lot of businesses have learned to become much more efficient with a lot fewer workers.  You see it when you go to a bank and you use an ATM, you don't go to a bank teller, or you go to the airport and you're using a kiosk instead of checking in at the gate.

I'm reading the article now. Jesus Christ on ice skates.....seriously? Companies are trying to be more efficient so they don't go out of business and kick what employees they do have to the curb. It's not like everybody is going out and throwing cash around in this economy either. All this administration has talked about is living within your means, but now these companies living within their means are the problem? The airlines that have been bailed out with taxpayer money are trying to better themselves so they're not in that same position again....shame on them too!

Bottom line, the stimulus package didn't work. Be a big boy and take responsibility. Don't blame it on ATMs and airport kiosks.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

They're not responsible for anything that's bad.  It's likely Bush's fault anyway.  I still have hope.  That change part hasn't work out so well...

A strong leader doesn't sit around contemplating what caused the problem.

A strong leader fixes the problem.

We know what the problem is.  The economy is hurt.  American confidence is hurt.  Our work ethic has deteriorated.

Fix it.

I used an airport ATM about 3 weeks ago, both in Panama City AND Chicago.

It's my fault.  I take full responsibility for the country's economic woes.  There Mr. Obama.  You are off the hook.

Not to split hairs, there really isn't much the Obama can do to directly fix these problems.

The government should not play that significant of a role in our economy.  That was never part of the American experiment.  Most economists seem to think otherwise, but the economy should be driven by the people and fostered by the government.  Regulations have handicapped some of our industries to the point of global insignificance.  Corporate taxation is dumb.  Individual taxation penalizes achievement.

To build American confidence, he could be holding the Reagan-esque pep talks that invigorated that generation.  Even if you weren't a fan of Reagan, after one of his speeches, you were ready to kick some ass and do something more.

Who was that guy not too long ago that said something along the lines of the "gov't needs to get out of the way and let businesses do what they do best, create jobs"?

Something else about a strong leader,  even if he can't directly fix the problem, he should be respected enough, to the point where his word is taken to heart and into consideration.

Exactly.

I never said how Obama should fix the problem.  And if he stepped out of the way, that would be a great way to fix the problem.

And who will replace him?

It might be someone that directs the government to take care of the lazy.  It might be someone that directs the government to take care of the rich.

But surely, it won't be someone who doesn't want power over the country.

We get someone the same as him...AT WORST.

ANY of the GOP candidates at this point would be better. Bush would be better. And I hate that son of a bitch. But this guy we have now has tanked this economy as much as one person can do in 2 years. Fuck him. I would take Romney over him at this point. I would still prefer Cain, Paul or Bachmann, even Santorum or Pawlenty. But I will back whichever of these the guys the GOP puts out there. I know it sounds like the Anti-Bush crowd from 2008, but this guy is THIS bad. I am just 100% fed up with this fucking mess. At least the other candidates recognize and understand the problem we are facing. They also understand that the government can do best by getting out of the way.

Somewhat simplistic observation:

Prior to the invention of the ATM a teller was employed to hand you some cash or take your deposit.

After the invention of the ATM a armored car employee is employed to fill the machine that hands you the cash or takes your deposits.

Seems like a wash to me.  I'm willing to bet that with the millions of ATM's all over the country, there are more people hired to fill, empty, and maintain them,  than tellers that have lost their jobs.

Therefore the ATM is actually a job creator not the other way around.

Could be wrong here and yes, this is another simplistic observation....but I can't see ATM's causing the loss of too many bank teller jobs.  Most people go into a bank to make a transaction of some sort.  Some cash checks, others make deposits etc.  I still go in our bank several times a week.  Could be wrong, though.

And somehow, even with the invention of the ATM, the lines are still long and the customer service still sucks.  I hate it when I'm waiting in line at the bank and there are 8 tellers behind the counter, 20 customers in line, and only 2-3 of the tellers are even open.

I hate that same thing at Sams.  It's the worst.  Two lines open 15 people in each line and 19 slackers jerking off by the pizza area.

Was in a fast food place yesterday.  A hundred flour-covered bitches in hairnets milling around behind the counter.  None of them can even be bothered to acknowledge that anybody's standing there waiting.

Customer service sucks EVERYWHERE.
