What pissed me off today, part 1,236
« on: May 24, 2011, 06:48:34 PM »
So I get in line at the local food Lion to get a pound of hamburger meat, some french fries, and a bag of buns.  This almost obese redneck woman in front of me (maybe mid 50's) is buying the following:

9 rolls of Willy Wonka sweet tart type candy
7 bags of peanut M&Ms
1 Snickers
1 Kitcat
2 12 packs of Diet Dr Pepper (yeah I know, wonder why she chose diet)

Above freeloading, redneck, Obama Voting woman proceeds to pay for said items with her Alabama food stamp card.

Why in the fuck can we not set up some sort of deal where these people are only allowed to buy the nescessities for survival?  You know Milk, eggs, cheese, hamburger meat, cannned veggies, etc?  If these freeloading sons a bitches want to drink Dr Pepper and eat Snickers they need to get a fucking job so they can afford them.

When I was a manager at Winn-Dixie, this sort of thing always pissed me off. What will really piss you off are the ones who have actual cash benefits on their card, and buy a pack of gum with the cash benefits so they can get $20 cash back and buy beer with it.

I have no problem with somebody having food stamps if they really do need it, and they want to do right. However, if you're using your food stamps to buy junk or cash benefits to buy stupid shit, I have a pretty big problem with that. I'm still a firm believer in random drug/alcohol testing for people who get government benefits

I have a friend who works with the health department screening babies whose mothers are on WIC.  Her job is to weigh the babies to make sure they are gaining weight like they should because mother's were selling their WIC formula vouchers for cash and just giving the babies plain milk.

I was in line once at the grocery store and the nicely dressed woman in front of me had a bagel and cup of coffee from the bakery.  I wouldn't have noticed anything strange except I heard the clerk say (in a rather loud voice), "You can use the food stamps for the bagel, but not for the coffee."  The lady then pulled out her Gold Mastercard to pay for the coffee.

Was she talking on her Droid while in line?

This reminded me of something funny I saw in Chicago this weekend.  Just outside the airport entrance was a woman holding a "Homeless and hungry" sign.  We were at an intersection and got a long look at her.  All broke out laughing when we noticed she was:

A. Fat
B. Smoking a cigarette
C. Talking on a cell phone

I have seen something similar to that.  Talking on a smartphone, telling the kid that they couldn't have any cereal b/c they couldn't afford it and then turn around and do what RWS was talking about, get some cash back so they could buy a case of natty light.

I was in the grocery store a while back and ran into a friend of mine checking out.  He was there with his 6 kids.  He is loaded btw (self made), and the obese woman in front of him, paying with food stamps had the gall to ask him if he didn't think having that many kids was irresponsible and a drain.  He lit her ass up about how he could feed his family of 8 and not have to have food stamps. It embarrassed the shit out of her.   I lost it hard, as did the cashier and several folks standing around.

I don't have a problem with people using their food stamps to buy junk food.  If that's what they choose to survive on, then so be it; I'm not going to attempt to impose a particular diet on them.

The only problem that I would have with it is if they had enough money to buy the "necessary" food staples AND extra shit that they don't need.  That would indicate that they're receiving too much monetary assistance from the government.

On a somewhat related sidenote, I watched a documentary called Food, Inc. recently.  One of the parts that I found interesting was how all of the "unhealthy" foods were priced much lower than the healthy foods, such as fresh vegetables in the produce aisle.  Of course, a lot of this has to do with the manufacturing costs; it's often cheaper to use high fructose corn syrup and other chemicals in processed foods than it is to harvest and manufacture organic foods and products.  Regardless, a diet of candies is absolutely retarded and not necessary.

Bullshit.  Unhealthy living = more time seeking medical attention.  People who qualify for food stamps also qualify for medicaid.  If it's on my dime, those bitches should have a list provided of items they can purchase.

I'm fairly certain WIC works that way, because I witnessed some pregnant woman pitch a bitch about a box of cereal that was Kellogs instead of Post.  Manager had to go swap the cereals out for her.  If WIC can do it, so can food stamps.

Limiting government medical assistance based upon what people eat and use (or, more simply, just limiting the number of visits or amount of bills that will be covered) is a different topic altogether.  For food stamps and other programs that fund their nutritional and living needs, I could care less whether they get whole wheat bread, white bread, or if they cut doughnuts in half to use them as bread.  Just so long as they aren't given enough assistance so that they can buy their necessities (whatever each recipient deems those to be) and more.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Of course not.  A) The mandate doesn't force anyone to buy a certain light bulb; it only bans one type of light bulb.  B) I never said I agreed with the mandate.  In fact, I'm pretty certain that I stated, several times, that the mandate was far too early, and possibly isn't even something that the government should ever have to do.
