Quote
Auburn University trustee Bobby Lowder called Gov. Robert Bentley today and asked that he not be considered for another term on the university's board, Bentley spokeswoman Rebekah Mason said.

Cue Bama conspiracy nuts claiming his withdrawal is designed to minimize size of impending hammer.

What did that get us?  Change for the sake of change isn't a good thing.

I've been critical of Lowder.  I've had pitchforks out in the past, ready to chase him down.  And yeah, he's meddled when maybe he shouldn't have.

But look at Auburn before he was a trustee and look at it now.

Can you honestly tell me Auburn is worse off?  Everything about Auburn is better.  When he came to power, AU was a small school and weren't really sure we wanted to be a big one.

Today we are.  New buildings, new programs, campus beautification, top notch athletic facilities, top of the line coaches given every chance to succeed.

I think we're gonna miss Mr. Lowder, more than anyone realizes.

Jimmy Rane?  Him I won't miss. But he's yella-ing his fella right on through.

I see your point and I agree. He has done some great things along with the other board members; he does deserve the credit. On the other, that sombitch makes me fucking nervous. I just think the guy is one of those that wouls let money drive him to do whatever even if it hurt Auburn ans claim it was for the greater good. Not to mention, he looks crazy as hell.

I don't think Lowder's money will stop helping Auburn.  He has always wanted the best for Auburn even though he sometimes...a lot of times did not understand how to do go about it ethically and legally.

A lot of Auburn fans don't realize how much he really did for the university and the football program.

That's because nobody in this state has every reported when he did something good, but they'll constantly print rumor and innuendo about him, and others.

Lowder has did some great things for Auburn and the program and I don't think this means he is going to stop helping the program. He does deserve credit for what he has done. However, the negative stuff is what most people know about the guy, and regardless of whether that is right or wrong, that does not change the fact it is out there, so him deciding to not serve another term on the board is a good thing in my opinion.

Yet, just like that does not mean he will stop supporting the program, that also does not mean it would keep him from doing something he should not do. Most of the problems I hear about him deals with meddling of personnel issues rather then violating NCAA rules, but rumors about the latter do exist. At least from here on out, if they guy was ever to be implicated on violating any rules, it would be as a rogue booster and not as somebody that holds an official position with the school.

Go back and read that piece by Pat Dye posted a week or so ago.  Puts in perspective what it was like at Auburn when he got here and how the University as a whole has progressed. Lowder has been very instrumental in that.

I want greaseybammer's take on it before I decide if it's a good thing or not.  Personally, I don't think anything will change, behind the scenes...and that's somewhat of a good thing, if you ask me.

Not as close to the politics of AU as most but I have to agree here. First of all , I have no earthly idea what goes on behind the curtain but I could never question this man's love for Auburn and yes it is very possible he has done some things that many of us might do under the same circumstances with equal clout, playing hardball and not settling for a backseat to anyone. Look at the growth of the area surrounding the campus. When I ride through, I don't see the sleepy little town with the streets rolled up as it once was pre-1980's.  I see commerce. And the people I think of first are Lowder, Dye and Bo.

Mussolini was lynched by his own people.  Seemed an apt analogy.
