Serious Question...
« on: April 25, 2011, 09:26:19 AM »
I just heard Dabo Swinney on JOX promoting the fact that the "Prowl & Growl" was going to be at Pelham High School.

Can someone tell me why the fuck the Tiger Prowl (and people said that name was corny) is under NCAA investigations for being original, and forced to cease all together, but these copycatters are free to do the exact same thing?

Someone please explain this to me.

First, Tiger Prowl was something that had been done before by Trooper IIRC.

Second, it, like the Saban rule, has only been modified by limiting the number of coaches that can show up together at the same time at a school.

Third, let them fucking investigate...worst case is they find some secondary violation, which, by bammer standards makes our staff "hard working."

The "copycatters" tells you it works.

I don't think you're right about either of these.

The NCAA is investigating Auburn's "Tiger Prowl" one year after the event ended for good, the university said this week.
Quote
Tiger Prowl ended in April 2010 when the NCAA Division I Board of Directors passed a rule saying schools could no longer send more than two coaches to visit a high school on the same day during an evaluation period.
Quote
After the NCAA ruling came out last year, Auburn coach Gene Chizik distanced himself from the phrase "Tiger Prowl." Chizik said last May that the recruiting trips to high schools were not part of Tiger Prowl. Tiger Prowl, he said, was the nighttime events for fans to meet coaches and see the decorated bus.

Also, I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the idea was credited to Trooper & Luper, but they didn't actually do this at OSU.

The Prowl started as an idea to make a much-needed splash on the recruiting trail.

Now it’s year two in the Chizik era and last year’s innovations are this year’s old hat.

The event, as it was, ended for good.  The number of coaches that can participate is what the NCAA really had a problem with and has knocked down, but the event itself is still okay.

They did something similar, and obviously it wasn't called Tiger Prowl.  I recall hearing them talk about it not being a unique idea.

Yes, technically "Tiger Prowl" was ended for good, because the original TP had all or a bunch of coaching showing up at the same time in the limo.  They've modified it to conform to the rule that only 2 coaches can show up together.
