2011 Spring Football
« on: March 22, 2011, 09:26:00 AM »
Well, spring ball starts tomorrow and not a moment too soon in my opinion. This spring should be an interesting one with position battles everywhere. Questions, questions, questions. Where are the weaknesses? Offensive line maybe? The offensive backfield? What about our strengths? All these questions should be answered for the most part in the next couple of weeks. We have good talented depth at every position, but most of that talent is young. Not a very senior heavy team either, but with talented seniors that should fill the leadership roles nicely.

What position battles are you most looking forward to?

Auburn will get an early start this spring with morning practice sessions

Published: Sunday, March 20, 2011, 11:37 AM     Updated: Sunday, March 20, 2011, 11:52 AM
By Charles Goldberg/Auburn Bureau, The Birmingham News, Press-Register, and The Huntsville Times

Auburn has released its spring football practice schedule, but since the workouts are closed to the public, this will serve to alert the players and for those who want to play along at home.

All the practices are in the morning, except for the A-Day Game at 2 p.m. on April 16 in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Like recent years, Auburn will have a practice after A-Day, this one on April 18.

The regular practice fields are still torn up because of the construction of the indoor facility, so the Tigers will be on foreign soil. The last time they were, like last December, they went on to win the national championship. Weekday practices will be held at the track facility. Saturday practices will be in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Here's the schedule
Wed., March 23                      9 a.m.
 Fri., March 25                         9 a.m.
Sat., March 26                      10 a.m.

Mon., March 28                       9 a.m.
Wed., March 30                      9 a.m.
Fri., April 1                              9 a.m.
Sat., April 2                        9:40 a.m.

Mon., April 4                            9 a.m.
Wed., April 6                           9 a.m.

I'm interested in the feedback and progress with Pelton and the D-line, especially at tackle. I think the other open spots on both sides of the ball can all be filled.

All spots will be filled, count on it.  We will field 11 on each side of the ball.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

I'm looking forward to see how Pelton does with the DL too. There are some mean sombitches that will be jockeying for the starting rotation.

The LB battles will be interesting too. With Curry, Owens, White and Holland having been in the system for a year, that should be a heated battle also. Is it possible the coaches move Bates back into the secondary?

Most will be watching the QB race. With Trotter having the obvious lead going into spring, you would think he is the guy. Frazier and Moseley will put the heat on him. I like Frazier but unless he is that dynamic, I don't see him taking the starting job.

Even though we lost a couple of talented WR's to the NFL or that was dismissed from the team, I think there is plenty of talent at the WR position. I will be curious to see Benton and Reed finally lives up to their potential.

I have read where Ladarious Phillips is going to be in the backfield with Dyer and McCaleb, more of a FB role though.

Can't forget about the OL. This will be crucial as we all know. Who in the hell will step?

I read an article this morning about the start of spring fooseball and when you seriously go over what we lost...and now including our starting fullback and safety....damn.  This is going to be....interesting. I wanted to use another word but I'll wait til after the spring game is over to fill in the blank.

AUBURN -- Auburn football practice will kick off shortly without two more players.

Wide receiver Philip Pierre-Louis and offensive lineman Andre Harris aren't on the spring rosters. They join at least 36 other scholarship players who aren't around who played for the national championship in January.

Pierre-Louis never caught a pass in three seasons.

Other notes: One-time FSU and Auburn offensive lineman signee Aubrey Phillips is back. Shon Coleman, who is recovering from cancer, has been assigned No. 70. As expected, receiver Derek Winter has not returned. Tight end Robert Cooper is also gone.

Thats what I was thinking. Both Little Frenchy and Harris had continuous health issues. Its freaking AUsome though that Coleman will finally get to suit up. I don't think he will play but it is still AUsome! I like the fact the coaches are gonna keep L Train on offense. I can't wait to see if they let him bulldoze the defenses. At 290lbs and running a 4.8(?)/40 is crazy.

Why Cooper?  I thought he would probably be Lutzie's backup this year.

Not sure about Cooper but I read on another board that this guy

will be joining the football team as a walk-on TE/WR

Some other quick roster notes:

â– WR Derek Winter, as expected after he caught passes from Cam Newton during pro day, is no longer on the roster. He would have been a fifth-year senior had he come back.
â– OL Aubrey Phillips is back on the roster. He transferred from Florida State two years ago but a medical condition kept him from playing.
â– OL Shon Coleman is on the roster, listed as No. 70. He is not expected to participate in spring drills.
■Early enrollee numbers: C Reese Dismukes, No. 50; CB Jonathan Rose, No. 28, OL Thomas O’Reilly, No. 66.

Lets hope at least the latter has been taken care of.
