Auburn: FootballScoop has learned that UL-Lafayette defensive line coach Mike Pelton has accepted the defensive line job at Auburn. Pelton coached the defensive line at Vanderbilt last season before joining Mark Hudspeth's staff at ULL.
Some are reporting Mike Pelton has Auburns new DL coach.http://www.footballscoop.com/the-scoopAnd also, here is a bio.http://vucommodores.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/pelton_mike00.html
Wait, so he was Vandy's DE coach last football season (hired March 2010, despite what that UL-L bio says), and then was hired less than two months ago to UL-L to be a DL coach? So basically he was only at UL-L for less than two months before leaving again? And why go from an SEC school, even if it is Vandy, to UL-L for essentially a lateral move in title? His bio confuses me.However, he did play at Auburn, and did work with Chizik at Iowa State, so he's got that going for him.
I liked Coach Pelton when he was at Troy. He was DE coach when I was there and produced two decent NFL players in Demarcus Ware and Osi Umenyiora. He's a good hire.
I really like the hire. He has a ringing endorsement from Larry Blakeney, that's enough for me.
I have A LOT of respect for Coach Blakeney.
Don't know the man but he seems like a good guy to me too.
They are referring to the fact that he is the one that gave Eric Ramsey the money to feed his starving chirren.
I remember Pelton, but don't know much about his coaching style. Coaching DTs aint rocket surgery. Its a lot about getting effort iut of your players. If Blakeny likes him thats ok by me.
DL Coaching playbook:1. get big mean assed dude in 3 point stance2. tell big assed dude the guy with the ball called his momma a whore3. tell big assed mean dude to go get the dude that talked bad about momma
