Not Bates. As late as January 2009, he planned to attend Arkansas State. Auburn was one of several SEC schools to make a late run at Bates, and he decided to head to the Plains. Bates started immediately as a safety. In 2010, he moved to linebacker. He was slowed late in the season by a shoulder injury, but Bates still finished with 48 tackles, seven quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles.
