JUPITER, Fla. -- St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright injured his elbow Monday and is returning to St. Louis to have it examined by team doctors.General manager John Mozeliak said Wednesday that "things do not look encouraging" for the 2010 Cy Young Award runner-up, based on the initial evaluation by the training staff, and believed it is a "significant injury."He said the right-hander injured his elbow in Monday's bullpen session.Adam Wainwright2010 STATS * GM33 * W20 * L11 * BB56 * K213 * ERA2.42"There's a problem with the ligament," Mozeliak said, according to the New York Daily News. "But it doesn't look good."An update is expected Wednesday afternoon.Wainwright went 20-11 with a 2.42 ERA in 2010, finishing second in the Cy Young Award balloting to Philadelphia's Roy Halladay. He won his 19th and 20th games while nursing a strain in his right forearm, which was hurt in a freak accident at home. He was shut down for the rest of the season, based on the recommendation of the team doctor. An MRI exam in late September showed a strained muscle in his forearm and inflammation near the elbow. At the time, the Cardinals believed Wainwright would be fine with rest, and the pitcher said the elbow ligament was not an issue.Wainwright said he had slept on the arm earlier in September, woke up, found the arm numb and flung it aside instead of waiting for feeling to return. In 2009, Wainwright led the NL in wins (19), innings (233) and starts (34), winning a Gold Glove while finishing third in the Cy Young Award voting.
Fuck me.Feb 16th - Feb 23 = worst sports week of my life.
It's a conspiracy, spearheaded by the Bama controlled media.
All negative things St Louis related originate in the Ivy.
BWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!Seriously though, I hate to hear that about Wainright. I would have hated it even more had it happened last season, since he was the ace of my fantasy team's otherwise piss poor pitching staff.
Wainwright set for Tommy John surgeryJUPITER, Fla. -- St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright will require Tommy John surgery to repair his elbow and he will miss the entire 2011 season, the club confirmed this morning.General manager John Mozeliak made the announcement at about 10 a.m. St. Louis time after a discussion with the pitcher and the team physician. All parties had been waiting on the results of a second opinion requested Wednesday evening from Dr. Lewis Yocum in the Los Angeles area."We have confirmed that Adam Wainwright will require Tommy John surgery. So obviously, he'll be out for the year," Mozeliak said. "Not a real surprise to us, but certainly a disappointment and a finality to this process. As we look to the future now we certainly beleive that we have a strong starting rotation on this club. And now we're going to have to try and fill it in terms of a fifth spot."The surgery date has not been set, but Wainwright will have the procedure done in St. Louis by Cardinals physician George Paletta.Mozeliak said that the recovery is usually 12 to 15 months.
Carps good, but he's not the 2006 version anymore. If he wins 15 games this year, I'd be shocked.I'm updating my NL-Central predictions1) Cubs2) Reds3) Cards4) Brewers5) Houston6) Pirates
