I sent him this from my work email, just because I want him to know that he is dealing with real people:
Jim,
Unlike some other people, I will not hide behind an anonymous email or phone call, as I am sure you are getting plenty of those.
I read your apology for the tweet that poked fun at the Toomer’s Corner situation while taking a shot at Cam Newton and Auburn in general. I find it to be a bit of backtracking and disingenuous. If you were truly only repeating a tweet in the name of news, then I apologize for what I am about to say. However, it seems to me that as a TV and radio personality/journalist, you would have taken the time to investigate and confirm this before purporting to pass it off as “newsâ€. The perception is that you were like so many others, looking for the quick laugh and the pat on the back from your Alabama brethren.
We’ve all made inappropriate jokes before. Be a man and fess up, it was a mistake. It was a quick one-liner that you understood immediately and passed it on to your tweets (or whatever they are called) to get the kudos from the Crimson Mafia. Unfortunately, you have a wider audience than that. Auburn people apparently follow you on the Tweets and you got busted. It’s happened to us all. I have told the inappropriate joke in mixed company before and gotten the stare of death from my parents or wife.
Keep the jokes between you and your Alabama buddies from now on and it’ll all be good. We know that y’all don’t get it. It ‘s a tree. It’s not like it’s a created national championship from 1941. However, to us, it’s more than a tree. It’s good times, it’s a special place. Those trees have been there longer than Alabama has been playing football. They are a piece of our history, our tradition, which goes far beyond winning and losing football games. We know you’ll never understand, but at least be tolerant of our feelings right now.
Please, even if it’s only here in private between us, man up and take responsibility for your joke that was in poor taste. I’ll keep it down home, cuz…(see, that was an Eric Ramsey joke, but enough time has passed and such that it was entirely appropriate. Auburn grads do have a sense of humor, it just has to be funny to us is all.)
One last thing, I did not listen to your show much in the past anyway, but you can be sure that JOX will be permanently deleted from my listening options in the future. I will also be contacting your sponsors to let them know that I will not support businesses that support views such as yours.
Signed my name and erthing.
Let's see how he responds...
