Carl is going to Kansas (speaking of Little House on the Prairie) for an entire week at the end of the month, and while he is gone, I doubt if the TV comes on more than an hour a day, if that. I prefer peace and quiet - whereas he has the ^#%$* TV on if he is home. Mindless, brainless channel surfing, just to have the noise. I will read, surf the net, whatever, once the kids are in bed but he HAS to have that damn tv on - he always falls asleep with it on something stupid and I have to try and wrest the remote away from him without waking him up - and if I turn it off? he wakes up and bitches because he was "watching that". Not sure how he could hear it over the horrendous snores coming from his face, but whatever...
There are a few shows I watch - An Idiot Abroad, The Office, American Pickers, Pawn Stars, etc. - but we DVR them all, so we can skip commercials, and I would not just OMGDIE!!!1!!1! if I miss them. I just can't stand live TV anymore - we will generally even pause football games and let them get about 15 minutes ahead so we can cut through the ENDLESS commercials, esp CBS games. And yeah, some of my stuff is brainless too, but I do NOT have to have it on 24-7 like he does. If I lived alone, I would watch MAYBE 5-7 hours a week total, in the offseason. (Football does not count, obviously.) We also don't let the kids watch live TV - we DVR the few Disney shows we let them watch, plus Minute To Win It and Americas Funniest Home Videos - so NO COMMERCIALS. It makes a HUGE difference when we go shopping - no whining for some piece of junk they saw on TV.
So good for you guys, THS. Carl could never do that, but I could.
