Rocker heads to Nashville

Tracy Rocker will be the new defensive line coach for the Titans.

The Titans have hired Auburn assistant Tracy Rocker to coach defensive line, replacing Jim Washburn.

Rocker won the Lombardi Trophy at Auburn in 1988 and coached Auburn's Nick Fairley to the same award in 2010.

"Obviously, he's done a great job as a player and now he's worked his way up through the ranks of coaching, and he's coming off a national championship at Auburn. He'd be a great fit for any organization," Titans Coach Mike Munchak told WJOX Radio in Birmingham on Wednesday, before the news was announced. "We need a great defensive line coach, and he'd fit that bill, so I'm very much interested in him."

Washburn left the Titans last month to join the Eagles, and then-coach Jeff Fisher had targeted Rocker before Fisher and the Titans parted ways. Fisher recommended Rocker to Munchak, who then made the hire.

Rocker, a former All-American, joined Auburnâ€™s staff prior to the 2009 season. He helped develop Fairley, whoâ€™s expected to be an early pick in next monthâ€™s NFL draft. In his first season on the Auburn sideline, Rocker coached Antonio Coleman to first-team All-SEC honors, and Coleman led the SEC in both tackles for loss (16.5) and sacks (10.0).

Rocker won the 1988 Outland and Lombardi Trophies while playing for the Tigers, and later was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Before joining Auburn he coached at Ole Miss, Arkansas, Cincinnati and Troy State. He was a third-round pick of the Redskins in the 1989 NFL Draft.

The Titans now have four staff openings to fill: wide receivers coach, running backs coach and two quality control assistants.

Well fuckity fuck fuck. I hate to have lost the greatest DL coach of all time. This stings just a bit. Great for Coach Rock though. He is one helluva coach.

Has anyone seen the salary bump? I assume it would be fairly significant. If so, then that's the only answer you need. He was making X in college. Now, he's making X in the NFL. Curious to see if they publish his salary.
