Terrorist Attack in Moscow
« on: January 24, 2011, 01:46:21 PM »
An explosion rocked Moscow's busiest airport today in an apparent "terrorist attack", killing 35 and injuring dozens more, according to Russian officials.

The blast, which reportedly erupted in the Domodedovo airport, took place at 4:40 p.m. Moscow time. In addition to the 35 dead, another 130 were injured, airport spokesperson Yelena Galanova said on Russian television.

President Obama said in a statement he "strongly condemns this act of terrorism" and offered his condolences to those affected, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said today.

Just posted the basics since it's all over the news.  I have to say, this type of stuff makes it all too real.  I've read how they're already saying the security is coming in to question but I honestly don't know what part of the airport this happened in.  The fact of the matter is that anyone cowardly enough to do something like this can pretty much find tons of people gathered in close proximity anywhere they want.  Go to a high school football game.  Walk down the streets of New York.  Go to an outdoor concert where there's no security.  Whatever.  I have no idea how you stop something like this and more importantly, why does anyone feel the need to prove a point or fight a war by targeting innocent, defenseless people?

It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

There's absolutely nothing you can do to stop it mainly because the people doing this are no different than the crazies in Waco or the psycho at the post office.

People get an idea in their head and it grows into something they can't control.  This suicide bomber believed his death and the consequential deaths that followed would serve a greater purpose than any of us can imagine.

I blame Christopher Nolan and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Just read where they found he head of the bomber.  Said it was definitely Arab.  I know that Russia has had their long standing fued with Chechen Rebels and have experienced some terrorist attacks stemming from that, but is there a reason Russia would be the target of Muslim terrorist attacks?  Assuming it was.

I am going to guess it has to be Chechen related - because unlike the pussies who currently are in charge of our national security in the Executive Branch, the Russian government will FUCK.  YOU.  UP.  They don't worry about waterboarding because they do not take prisoners.  Al Queda is not that stupid.  They may provide aid to the Chechens but they are not about to take the Bear by the balls directly.

Really? I don't think you can really justify a comparison between the crazies Waco and Muslim extremist. In Waco you had a cult that was pretty much murdered for defending their compound from the ATF. How is that like what happened in Moscow?

Well they were murdered for not allowing the execution of a legal search warrant, but I think your point is valid.  Up to that point they had been peaceful despite having a stockpile of weapons large enough to take over Paris.

Well, I think my point is just that it an odd comparison to go to when there are so events in recent memory that seem to be better for comparison.

Two things:

1.  Did I clearly define which side of the Waco situation was the crazies?
2.  Many people died in both situations due to people allowing their personal beliefs to influence the way they treat others.

Up to that point they had been peaceful despite having a stockpile of weapons large enough to take over Paris.

So their arsenal included 2 Daisey BB guns, 4 water pistols, a sling shot and 10 members with their fingers in coat pockets?

Looking at that list, it might be overkill for taking Paris by force.

1. Not really sure it matters which side you chose
2. I still think it is an odd choice of comparison, it almost seems as if you are throwing that out there so you can tell us how you feel about the Waco situation. True people many have died in both situations and personal beliefs were involved, but in Waco the people with their personal beliefs were the ones dieing. On the other hand, the person in Moscow was the one with the personal beliefs and he was the one inflicting the harm. I just think it is a bad example for comparison.

Being that the old Soviet Union had their long, drawn out war in Afghanistan themselves, albeit probably what...25-30 years ago?....has there still been problems between the two?  Maybe it's just my perception that the U.S. is the prime target for terrorist acts like this; however, this kind of shit is becoming all too common place all around the world.  Do radical Muslims that do this shit just hate everyone who simply isn't Muslim?
