I understand that, but it's not like they're gonna go "oh, well, the donor went away so we're down to 80 scholarships now"
depends..........if the donor has not fully funded the scholarship OR in this case requests his money be moved to fund other scholarships then you have a shortage that must be made up...ie a deficit.
Scholarship seating also pays for athletic scholarships, if some one does not renew or a large group does not renew and others can not be found to replace them then scholarship money dries up and deficits are incurred.
In the short run, the university can cover this shortfall but eventually the money must be found and made up.......if not the sport is downgraded or dropped.
Since UConn has just recently made the move to FBS, I doubt their coffers are very full..................if this douche bag influences enough other people to go with him, they could be put in a financially difficult position.
While his threat is not a immediately felt doomsday for UConn football, it can definitely have dire consequences.
Basically the ath. dept has to start robbing Peter to pay Paul and other areas suffer and you end up in a long slow downward spiral as far as being able to keep up and compete.
Need an example close to home? Look at uat in the mid 50's or AU in the 1970's and look what Bryant and Dye did to alter the current realities of the time.
