what should i be looking @ to buy?...and why?

I'm no expert, but bought a 40" Samsung LED 3D a few months ago.  It replaced the 32" Sony Bravia an LCD TV.  I would definitely go with the LED over the LCD.  LED picture is fucking incredible.  Also LED is about an inch thick.  As for brands, I believe Samsung and Sony are leading the pack.

I got a Samsung 47" LED for my birfday this year sans the 3D.  Best.  Picture.  Evar.
It replaced a 42" Plasma, and I have an LCD in the man cave as well.  The LED blows both out of the water.

I have a Phillips Plasma in the man room.  It is nice, but I would only recommend the plasma for a dark room.  I have an LG LCD in the living room, it has a nice picture, but I really notice the black not being very dark.  LED is really the way to go if you don't mind spending an extra couple hundred.

for you samsung owners...do you have the AllShare sync function? if so, do you utilize this feature?   according to the literature it reads PC but is it compatible with a MAC.


i'm going to pass on the 3D...i think.

That is a little over my head not sure what it does. 
I would pass on the 3d I never use it, tried to watch a few football games but the glasses get annoying and the broadcasters are different from the normal game coverage.

Bottom Line -

Budget/bang for buck? - VIZIO LCD (still good quality) or a used plasma (even cheaper).
Money not an object? Sharp Aquos or Samsung LED.

I'm somewhat of a firm believer in the theory that a TV screen can only get so clear. Once the clarity starts approaching that of actually being there in person, there's not much higher you can go as far as pixel clarity. I mean, how clear do we really need a TV screen? I have LCD's in all rooms of my house and I love them. Theyre pretty inexpensive now and not nearly as volatile as a plasma.

I wouldn't get a used Plasma.  They can burn in and if some kid was playing video games on them they will really show it.

Most of the newer models of Plasma and LCD say they have 100,000 hour half lives.  Meaning that after 100,000 hours of watching they will have lost 50% of their brightness and color.

The LED bulbs are supposed to last from 40,000 to 60,000 before they lose half their brightness.  The LED bulb is replaceable, and not terribly expensive ($100-$200 on average).

That is actually pretty good for both considering that most of us are looking at the latest and greatest in TV's every 5 yrs or so.
