Well, I think JR summed that up pretty nicely.
Let me go ahead and address the typical bammer response to what I posted, which is: "Well the FBI is investigating Auburn Boosters, and they have wire taps."
If you have ever dealt with Federal Law Enforcement, you know a few things, one of which is, they don't investigate anybody for a private entity. They are not the NCAA's lapdog, or an arm of the NCAA. Second, they don't share shit with other Federal LE Agencies willingly, and they damn sure won't share it with the NCAA. Third, wire taps are governed by strict rules. They can't release any of it to the public, and to release any of it to anyone else for any reason, they need a waiver (forget the specific Fed Rule) to do this, and they can only use what is pertinent to their investigations from the wire taps. Now, had they stumbled on Milton McGregor buying Cam Newton, they certainly could have expanded their investigation to include that, but McGregor was already indicted on violations of law that have NOTHING to do with Auburn, or recruiting, which means that's what they had to indict him on. And with all that, these wire taps took place at a time either before, or after Newton's recruitment, not during, I just can't recall when. The only persons the FBI investigated in regard to Newton's recruitment were the folks in Starkville, and the Newtons. The NCAA investigated the Newtons, and folks in Starkville and in doing so means that both the NCAA and the FBI looked for a money trail and never found one, either where it started or where it ended. Meaning, it's not there. Had either discovered one, it likely would have been at the end (unless someone admitted to paying), with Cecil Newton, and tracked back to it's source...had it been to either someone at Auburn or State, you can bet Cam would never have been declared eligible if there was even a hint that money changed hands.
The bammers can hang their hopes and dreams on the FBI, but they'll be just as disappointed as they were on that Friday after Thanksgiving.
USCw won their national championship 6 years ago. Despite all the talk and taking away their championship etc. I don't believe that was ever actually done. Bush gave the Heisman back but not the same thing. And all the allegations were proven.
Again, isn't there a distinct difference in the BCS title and what the NCAA recognizes or has jurisdiction over?
Should USCw's appeal fail, they will vacate the 2004 BCS Title according to what I've read. Honestly, I'm not sure that has happened yet or not.
