Former Notre Dame coach and ESPN college football analyst Bob Davies today said he is giving the edge to Oregon in the BCS National Championship, simply based on the Ducks' preparation in having played in the Rose Bowl last year.

"I'm out here in Phoenix, I see Auburn getting off that plane yesterday. They brought 400 guys on that Delta charter. I mean, it's the biggest plane I've ever seen," Davies said on Colin Cowherd's nationally syndicated sports talk show.

"The point is, Oregon last year played in the Rose Bowl. Auburn played in the Outback Bowl. I know Auburn's handled a lot of things all season, but there out here in the desert for a week.

"Does Oregon's familiarity, having played in the Rose Bowl last year, and lost, you know, what an unbelievable lesson that is ... All this hype is going to be done and it all comes down to who plays the best in the game. I think Oregon has an advantage just in preparation for the game because of their experience."

Host Cowherd went on to cite the fact that Oregon plays in the PAC 10 conference, recruits in Arizona and has Arizona players on its roster. Cowherd compared the Tigers to Alabama last year.


"Alabama last year against Texas, they were petrified for the first quarter. Now, they were a better team, but they were scared," Cowherd said. "Remember that first quarter for Alabama last year? A lot of those kids had never been on a plane outside of the South."

"Yeah, and you still wonder whether if Colt McCoy doesn't go down in that game if the outcome of that game might be different," Davie said of Alabama's national championship victory over the Texas Longhorns. ...  I just see (Oregon coach) Chip Kelly having a little bit of an advantage of that experience of preparing for a game like this."  Yeah, like Gene Chizik has never played in a big time game like this before either, you stupid fuck!!

I think that this team has a better grip on the "hype" thing than any other in recent memory.  Exhibit "A" for that is how they just went out there and took care of business week after week after week, even all the Cam stuff, both good and bad, and the SEC championship and all that comes with it.  They just got BETTER after all the bullshit started.  Look at Georgia, look at bammer, look at the SECCG... they insulate themselves, and close in around one another - this is where that whole "family" thing The Chin preaches becomes an invaluable asset.  They believe in the team and in each other and at the end of the day, it pays off (Iron Bowl).  I think the SECCG was the tell - they ran the gauntlet of the regular season, and then it was like they just took a deep breath and relaxed and played with joy and a light heart, and pounded the everloving hell out of the Cocks.  Sure they are gonna be hyped up about this game, but I would imagine most of them see this as the reward for all their hard work, and they are just going to go out and take care of business once again.  I bet Cam smiles that awesome smile for a full sixty minutes.

So Davies gives the nod to Oregon because.
A. We brought a lot of people on a big plane
B. Oregon played in the Rose Bowl but lost we played in the Outback and won.
C. We have been in Arizona for a week
D. Oregon recruits in Arizona

Then Cowherd compares us to Alabama who won last years National Championship, but should have lost because they knocked Colt McCoy out of the game.

Fuck those guys...not because they picked Oregon to win, but because that has to be the stupidest drivel I have ever read.

A different Oregon team playing in the Rose Bowl last year, where they essentially had NOTHING on the line except pride.  Big gala affair, I'm sure, but it wasn't the national championship.  Oh wait, I forgot..Oregon also recruits the State of Arizona.

Alright, take all the hype and stuff that could, may, might give one team or another some mystical advantage.  It's about match ups, plain and simple.  Once they start popping each other..it's about match ups.  The one "advantage" I see for Auburn outside of the match ups is what we've seen all through the season.  From Clemson forward, this team faced adversity in a ton of their games.  They got behind and had things go wrong.  Clemson had em' down.  USCe did the same.  UK made em' sweat.  Jawja jumped all over them with A.J. Green.  Think 24-0 and getting steamrolled in the biggest rivalry in the country and an extremely hostile environment.

In each situation, the coaches all said the same thing.  This team has been through it.  They don't panic.  They get their collective shit together as players and coaches and figure out what they have to do....and they go do it.
