Thirty days have passed since the Auburn Tigers secured their BCS National Championship Game reservations with a win over South Carolina in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game.

At 5:30 p.m. Monday, the No. 1 Tigers (13-0) touched down at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, taking them one enormous step closer to their Jan. 10 showdown against No. 2 Oregon (12-0) at University of Phoenix Stadium.

"(We've) been very pleased just with the last three weeks of practice," Auburn coach Gene Chizik said. "I'm really proud of our team. Coming here makes it a little bit more realistic because they understand that it's getting closer, so it's been a lot of fun, the focus has been there, but we need to lock back in (today) and get to work."

The last time the national-title game was here, after the 2006 regular season, the hype didn't match the result. Florida thumped top-ranked Ohio State 41-14 in a game that was over at halftime. This contest is expected to be different, perhaps even a classic.

Oregon, Pac-10 champions, averages 49.3 points per game. Auburn averages 42.7. Oregon features tailback LaMichael James, the country's leading rusher at 152.9 yards per game. Auburn features Cameron Newton, winner of the Heisman Trophy and subject of an earlier NCAA investigation regarding his eligibility. (Newton was cleared.)

Chizik said the Tigers maintained a businesslike approach throughout the chaos and craziness, which allowed them to pursue their first national title since 1957. It also has helped them deal with so much down time leading up to the championship.

"One of the great things our coaches have done, and one of the great things our players have been able to do, is no matter what the circumstances are, take one day at a time and focus on the task at hand," Chizik said. "I give our coaches a ton of credit for being able to block out time, distance, whatever the case may be in terms of how far away the game is or what's going on on the outside. We've really done a great job of focusing."

SEC teams (Alabama, Florida twice and LSU) have won the past four national championships. Auburn, however, is somewhat of a newcomer on this stage. The Tigers are playing in just their second BCS game since the format's inception in 1998. They beat Virginia Tech 16-13 in the 2005 Sugar Bowl.

This time the stakes will be higher.

"This is a business trip," Chizik said. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime, possibly, opportunity for so many people. You never know when you're going to get a chance to be here again. I think our guys understand the importance of the game."

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."
