I understand him wanting to be there, being a family and all, but the guy also almost screwed up his son's college career and the whole Auburn season if the NCAA wanted to be heavy handed. I don't think the NCAA would have told AU there were violations by Cecil if he just listened and that was all there is too it. I think he did have a lapse in judgment when told he could get money and he pursued it, then had a crisis of conscience. He is only human, but as a fan and as a father, he knew it was wrong the moment he was told there could be money, so I have a hard time getting over that amount of selfishness, so I have no sympathy if he does not get to be there either. I support Cam, but I don't have to support his dad.
It will be a distraction if he does go, because even if he does try to stay hidden, the media will try to seek him out. They will know what hotel the family is staying at, so unless Cecil secretly stays somewhere else, it will not be too hard to find him. The media will probably be even waiting at the airport, so Cecil will have a hard time dodging them even then.
EDIT IN:
ESPN just confirmed that the elder Newton is on the guest list and has a seat reserved for him. However, the Heisman Trust said it is not confirmed that Cecil is coming or not.
