What was Oregon's record when he took over?
NEW YORK (AP) -- Oregon coach Chip Kelly has been named winner of the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, voted on by the Football Writers Association of America.
Kelly led the second-ranked Ducks into the national championship game for the first time in his second season at Oregon. The Ducks, who led the country in scoring, will face top-ranked Auburn in the title game in Glendale, Ariz., on Jan. 10.
Kelly is the first Pac-10 coach to win the award since Washington State's Mike Price in 1997, and the second Oregon coach to get it, joining Rich Brooks in 1994.
The writers association narrowed the field to eight finalists in late November. The award has been handed out since 1957 and was named for Robinson, Grambling State's legendary coach, in 1997.
