Newton adds 'wow' factor to cement No. 1 status

Editor's note: Each Tuesday this season, one of ESPN.com's Heisman Watch voters will offer his or her take on the Heisman Trophy race.

I have Cam Newton on top of my Heisman ballot because he has delivered that "wow" factor that Heisman candidates need. He is more important to his team than any other candidate. I believe without Newton, Auburn is a winning team but one that is nowhere near national title contention. With Newton, the Tigers appear unstoppable. Also consider that had he stayed at Florida or if Mississippi State won that recruiting battle out of junior college, I believe Newton would have them in the national title chase.

Second on my ballot is LaMichael James, who's been the most dynamic running back in college football. As good as James is (and he's brilliant), a healthy Kenjon Barner delivers similar results. In third place, I have Kellen Moore. He's similar to Newton in that he's irreplaceable for this particular Boise State team, but Newton has the edge because of the way Auburn relies on him to run. As much as I respect Moore and Boise State's program, the fact that Newton is doing what he's doing against a major-conference schedule factors heavily in my evaluation.

I still have Andrew Luck sitting in the fourth spot. Stanford is about a quarter-and-a-half in Eugene away from being in the national championship race and Luck is the biggest reason why. He's not having the most Heisman-worthy season statistically, but that doesn't change my belief that he's the most complete QB in college football. It doesn't impact the Heisman race necessarily, but I believe he'll be the best pro quarterback among all of those in the college game.

Finally, in fifth place, I have Terrelle Pryor, who's having a statistically dominant season. Funny how one game changes everything. If the Buckeyes had won in Madison, Wis., I think Cam Newton would still lead the race, but Pryor would be viewed as his biggest challenger. Pryor has been very efficient and November can be crazy. Planets could align to give Pryor a chance to make a run at Newton.

It would seem at this point, to be an absolute lock barring injury, or a complete loss of bodily functions and control, thereby causing him to shit his pants, vomit on Dyer and McCaleb causing them to vomit and pull abdominal muscles, and then throwing 5 pick sixes.

Ok, I think I'm following you. Cam Newton is in the lead and should win this thing. Although, we will hear the James kids name as the one who is in the "running" with Cam. It ain't gonna happen though.
