Awww come on Chop...it's okay to not want to be #1.  What's that old saying, "If you ain't first, it's okay to be last" or "second place is a first place winner behind the #1 position".

Truthfully, imagine the amount of crow that the bammers would have swallow when they hear that Auburn is the #1 team in the mutha fuckin' Country.  #1 Auburn Tigers has a better ring to it than #2 Auburn Tigers.

Bammers won't be eating any crow until we finish the season stomping their asses in Tuscaloosa, and then win the SEC, and BCS...if we don't it's simply fodder for all their standard blather about not being able to handle the spotlight and such.

I understand that some want to take the supersticious route.  Whatever.

Guess I just have more respect for the blood, sweat, injury's, thousands of miles on the recruiting trail and hours upon hours of hard work behind the scenes to hope we're only #2.

I know you all want that too, but hoping we're not #1 sucks.  Bullshit.  Sorry.  Just my opinion.

Sure it would be great to be #1 and we probably will be by the bama game. What matters to me is winning the SEC Championship and getting to Glendale. Thats where all the hard work pays off.

i can't agree more on being #1.  recruiting, media time, national headlines...all of that looks just a bit better than hiding @ the number #2 spot.  let's prove to the nation we are the #1 team and hold it till the end. bama, oklahoma and ohio state couldn't do it.  bunch of pretenders.

the other thing i don't get..."this game scares me".  scares?...are fucking corpses going to rise from the pat dye turf?   is michael myers hiding in the hallows of jordan-hare stadium?

#1 or #2, does it really matter? Seriously, if we're playing in the NC game, wouldn't that be the sweeter pot. I mean, all being #1 or #2 would be the jersey color. Im sure those teams, like Oklahoma, would trade a #1 ranking for a spot in BCS NC game.

Fuck yeah it matters!  Being #1 means a lot more than a ticket to the big game, if earned.  It's saying a LOT about your program and all involved.

This "target on our back" thing is dumb.

Do people think our bitter rivals Georgia and Alabama aren't going to try very hard to beat us if we're one spot lower in the BCS?

You're missing my point Chopper. Yeah it is AUsome to be #1, but it matters more to be in the BCS NC game. The teams that have lost being #1 would gladly trade that to be in Glendale. Believe me, I'm not complaining about our new #1 spot, I'm just saying that I would be very happy with #2 and being in the time and place to be the Champs.

I will say, at the moment I saw Oregon at #2, my heart actually skipped at beat and a shit eating grin appeared on my face. I felt like a little kid that just got a nice Christmas gift.

No, Simp, you're the one missing the point.  Only a fuckin' dumbass wouldn't want to be #1/#2 going into the BCS Championship Game.  The #1 Ranking isn't for the fans, like Chop stated, it's for the players that've gotten injured, sweated and worked their asses off.  It's for this coaching staff, the "HS Offense", the "5-19 loser"...that's who it's ultimately for and all the publicity that comes with it.

Just about everyone stated (8-4/9-3), some worse, some better.  So, just enjoy the moment, since this is the first time Auburn has been ranked #1 in the season since '85.  But, now that Auburn is ranked #1 teams are going to play us harder?  I say bring 'em on, if Auburn isn't a National Championship Caliber team, then we'll find out in the coming weeks.  But for right now, I'm giddy as a school girl...fuck what happens weeks from now.  Why worry?  Just enjoy it.

I understand all that Prowler and I can't disagree with that whatsoever. The players and coaches are the ones that earned this and they absolutely deserve because they have worked their asses off day in and day out. Also, all the nay sayers can suck a big one. I will say, however, the players and coaches will be the first to tell you that they pay no attention to the rankings and their goal is to make it to Atlanta and then to the NC game. So if they were #1 or #2, that don't matter. What matters is being there and taking care of business in their due time. Now, if I put myself in their shoes, sure I am loving the #1 ranking. Hell, it feels mighty fine just as a fan.

Auburn players enjoy being No. 1 in BCS, but say there's still much work to do
Published: Monday, October 25, 2010, 7:34 AM
Charles Goldberg/Auburn Bureau, The Birmingham News, Press-Register, and The Huntsville Times

AUBURN -- Craig Stevens has seen it all now.

The senior linebacker who played on a losing Auburn team just two years ago is now on an Auburn team that is ranked No. 1 in this week's Bowl Championship Series standings.

The only unbeaten team in the Southeastern Conference achieved that lofty status Sunday night thanks to the computer portion of the BCS that lavished points on the only team that has beaten four teams currently in the Top 25. The only other BCS-ranked team with more than one Top 25 win is Wisconsin, which has two.

Auburn is ranked No. 1 in a major poll for the first time since September of 1985 when the Tigers were first in the AP poll.

Auburn players took it all in Sunday night.

"It means a lot, especially for the guys who have been here for the five-win season," Stevens said.

Defensive back Zac Etheridge was barely out of practice when the news spread through the team.

"Everybody's tweeting about it right now," he said.

Coach Gene Chizik acknowledged his players will hear about the ranking on campus.

"I can only control how we proceed in this building," Chizik said.  "We just had a team meeting and we talked about being very grounded and understanding that every week is another new week and another opportunity."

But Etheridge, Stevens and other players said they'd heed the advice given by Chizik earlier in the day.

"Coach says we can't focus on that, because once you start to do that, that's when the team starts to backslide because you think you're more ready than you really are," Stevens said. "We just go out every day and try to make improvements as a team, and once we do that everything will handle itself."

Auburn, a surprising 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Southeastern Conference, will put its No. 1 ranking on the line Saturday at Ole Miss. The Tigers will be looking to fare better than the last three No. 1s.

Oklahoma, this season's first BCS No. 1, lost to Missouri on Saturday. The week before, AP No. 1 Ohio State lost to Wisconsin. The week before that, AP No. 1 Alabama lost to South Carolina.

Alabama is the highest ranked team in the BCS this week with a loss. The 7-1 Tide is No. 7.

Auburn is ranked No. 3 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll and the Harris Interactive Poll -- two of three components that make up the BCS -- but the Tigers jumped past others because of their tough schedule, mostly made up of fellow SEC teams. The computers liked that.

The computers did not like No. 2 Oregon. The Ducks are first in the coaches poll, AP and Harris polls, but eighth with the computers. No. 3 Boise State is second in the coaches poll and Harris polls, but sixth with the computers.

TCU and Michigan State rounded out the BCS Top Five.

The SEC's other BCS representatives are No. 12 LSU, No. 19 Arkansas, No. 20 South Carolina and No. 21 Mississippi State.

Lineman Ryan Pugh, the center on the SEC's most productive offense, tried to shrug off the ranking.

"It's an honor, but it goes back to improving and getting ourselves for the upcoming game because we've got a lot of improvements to make after watching the film today," he said as the Tigers prepared for their ninth game without a break.

"It's part of the grind you play in the SEC. There are days when it's tough to get out of bed, but that's what good teams do. Championship teams find a way to get better each day whether it's easy or not."

Auburn has a long way to go before any championships. The Tigers play at Ole Miss at 5 p.m. Saturday, then have a homecoming date with Chattanooga before finishing up with rivals Georgia and Alabama.

"As a team, we don't even think about it," Etheridge said. "That's something to get our fans excited. There's just a No. 1 in front of Auburn when it's on TV. And that's how we look at it."

You are attepting to argue with window lickers who obviously get caught up in the emotion of being #1 and not the big picture or end goal. Get in the bcscg and win it, and we will get all the exposure and recruiting we want.   If you don't think like chop it prowler, you're just a dumbass pussy.   :taunt:

I think it's pretty clear that there's a long way to go.  Calling me or anyone else a "window licker" because we are proud of being #1?  Excuse the FUCK out of me?

I should be the one saying excuse the Fuck out of me. I expressed my opinion of being #1 and you started referencing your vaginal leakage. Whether its me or simp or Jr or kaos or even rws, its apparent that you guys don't play well with other opinions and turn every argument around so that the person with the grounded or differing opinion is somehow the bad guy. You guys have played this same song over and over to the point its predictable.

I like being #1 but not the euphoria so much that comes with it. This team must stay grounded!

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/10/auburn_players_enjoy_being_no.html

Well, that pretty much sums it up. In this kind of situation, the first emotion usually tells the best. Me and my wife were watching the show together. Her first comment, "OH SHIT!". I laughed because that is exactly what I was thinking. Not a negative OH SHIT, but an OH SHIT with a smirk of a shit eating grin. This what I expected to hear from the players, its a good moment but reality is a #1 ranking alone will not get you into the championship games where you want to be; meaning not is not the time to let up. The players get that and also understand with that they also have to prepare for the others teams best.

You know, this actually may pay more dividends that the other teams that failed to stay at #1. Its like what many have already stated including the players. All the shit that this team has faced, even dating back to 2004, seeing years of hard work pay off might just catapult this years team into the next level of play.

Everyone should be excited no doubt, but I think the major miscommunication here is the fact that myself and others were saying that we'd rather be #2 and be in Glendale than be #1 and fail like a bitch like Ohio St and Oky has already done; that is all. What is wrong with that opinion. All that was said before the BCS poll came out. All that has changed now because we are #1. Even the feeling changed as I saw with my own eyes Auburn unveiled as the new #1, damn sweet feeling. I just want the players to continue their quest  has champions and dare any motherfucker to try and take it away from them.
