He is missing two key factors from years past.  Tebow and the gusty play of Percy Harvin.
I believe you mean Irvin Meyer is missing Tim Tivo and Percy Harvey

He had a QB at Utah that was head and shoulders above the rest of the conference.  He had Tebow at UF.  Now he has neither and has lost 3 in a row, scored 7 at home against MSU and has one of the worst offenses in the conference.

He may be a good coach, but I'm pretty sure most of us on this board could have won with Tebow as our QB.  Show me you can win with lesser players and I will call you a great coach.

You should go look at the top 10 team in the rankings now, and tell me how many have guys mentioned in the Heisman race.  The top 4 all have serious Heisman contenders.  The NC the last 2 years had the Heisman winner.  It's not a coincidence.  No coach wins consistently...at a championship level, without great talent.  Those comments, and especially the bolded one...well, putting it nicely, aren't real savvy.   And yeah, I know you were being a smart ass too.

The big problem here is that Meyer is having his down year with 4-5 years of top 10 recruiting classes.  He has the talent, he has not found a way to use them.  That is bad coaching.

Meyer's great flaw is the same as Saban's, when they are great it is due to their own mightyness, when they lose it must be that they don't have good enough players.

You can have good players, and not have the right ones, or the right ones in the right spots, or it may be that they're not working out.  Anyway, if you want to call it bad coaching, then call it that...it may be just that.  I think he's pretty damned good, though he may not have done the best job this year.  Lots of ingredients involved in having a great team.  As I said, sometimes, you do what you do, what has worked in the past, and it's just not the right thing.  Things don't always go as planned.  This is the thing I hate about coaching these days...the first season a coach has a down year, it's never anything other than "bad coaching" in some folk's eyes...then the "Fire Coach______" watch begins.  I hate that culture.

Upon further review, I think you're right.

I'll let the dumas stand for public viewing.

Well if you get to take credit for being the allmighty god of coaching when you win with Tebow or Alex Smith (in a shitty conference) then you have to take the blame for being a shitty coach when you have a bad year with all your own top 10 recruits.  Can't have it both ways.

There are some other factors that people forget outside of Meyer.  While I think Meyer is a good coach, I have wondered since Mullin left if he really was the brains behind the offensive genius he had been known for.  After this year, I think it has almost been confirmed, that it was Mullin and not Meyer that had the ability to adapt to the personal that they have.  See IMO the difference between a good coach and a great coach can be the ability to make things work with the hand he has been dealt.

What I am wondering is WTF happened to their entire offseason?  How did they not know that these problems were going to be an issue, and not prepare for them.  The 8th week of the season is not the time to be trying new things and finding out who your QB is.

Bottom line...this about sums it up for Irving Myer and the Gatas.

I guess...I don't recall him taking an inordinate amount of credit for anything.  And, some seem to forget, recruiting is part of the coaching equation.  I know...I know...Tebow was a lock for Floirida anyway, no credit to Meyer for that.  I think, if you asked Meyer, or any coach, they'd tell you great players make coaches look great.

Damn fine point there GF! This I too have thought. Sure Tebow being gone and some not so good recruiting, but Mullen being at Miss St is more the factor of Florida's troubles. Look at Miss St, they are at 5-2. Sure maybe the competition hasn't been all that but they did beat Florida and the two teams they lost two are currently undefeated. When has Miss St even been relevant? I tend to believe that if anybody can make that happen, Mullen can. That is proved by Florida's awful offense and Miss St being competitive.
