Top Gun Sequel in the Works; Cruise to Play Minor Role

Posted October 15, 2010 2:11 PM. It's Top Gun Sequel time! Hollywood's Paramount Pictures is working on a sequel to the 1986 aviation action flick "Top Gun," New York magazine reported. The studio has made offers to producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott, who collaborated on the original. Tom Cruise, star of the first film, is expected to reprise his role of brash flying ace Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, but it would be a smaller role, the magazine said.

Paramount reportedly is also courting "The Usual Suspects" scribe Christopher McQuarrie to write the screenplay for "Top Gun 2."

I saw something about this earlier, that there would be a Top Gun 2. I was thinking to myself that Cruise would be the main man. It is surprising that he will not. In my opinion, this not one to sequel but who knows.

Still a great movie to this day. The Nintendo game wasn't bad either.

This movie made Tom Cruise my first official teenage lust-ee. Saw it six times in the theater. Watched it more than fifty times on VHS after it came out - wore out one tape. Multiple viewings on HBO. Posters on the walls of my room. "Take My Breath Away" was the go to song for makeout sessions... Still one of the hottest love scenes in the history of movies even though there is no nudity... The volleyball scene alone is still good for a few nice dreams to this day...

Can't they just leave something sacred and untouched????

Let me guess, you wore out the VHS tape at that volleyball scene, for the same reason my copy of Fast Times at Ridgemont High was all scratchy when Phoebe Cates gets out of the swimming pool.
