Eli Gold, not toeing the company line....
« on: October 10, 2010, 11:52:13 AM »
On the way to my youth game yesterday evening, I was listening to the final moments of the Bammer beatdown, and some of their post game.   Bammer color guy says to Eli "Well, bammer is still the driver's seat to win the west".  Eli Gold,  credit to him, chimed in and said (paraphrased) "Auburn is still undefeated and they beat South Carolina a couple of weeks ago, and they are left on our schedule".  I couldn't believe what I was hearing from Eli.  Truth?  I'm sure they'll remedy that this week.

Nah, Saban is pissed off enough to give Eli a pass on that one. Don't forget Les Eli.

People will disagree with me but I have always thought Eli Gold was fair in his assessments.  His play call sucks ass.  Something about his description of games leave me not knowing what is going on very well but I have always thought he did well when it came opinions about where UAT stood.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

No actually I agree with you, Eli is spot on with assessments. When he arrived in Birmingham I found that Gold was second only to Lew Budreaux (HOFer @ radio host) in all-sports knowledge, a walking encyclopedia of facts and records as well.  I'm straying, but as columnist's go, I think Kevin Scarbinsky is as good as I have read particularly in basketball but certainly interesting in football too for what this state is about. I think we are lucky to have both men here.

I met Eli several years back while waiting on a flight out of Charlotte and had an excellent conversation with him. Very knowledgeable and personable guy. We talked about everything from his days as a sports anchor in Birmingham to auto racing and, of course, football.

I hold no ill will against him.

Agree...nice guy.

Just nice not to have to hear "the snake" ramble on in a drunken state.

I agree too.  Eli is a nice guy, and he's a respected professional in the broadcast business.
