I watched the State game in Olive Branch from a half-assed sports bar, sound cut down, with a drunken woman donning Maroon hovering over my shoulder yelling "hurt him" everytime Newton took to running. I cannot express the thoughts that were running through my head so I'll just stick to what I saw and what I didn't see in no particular order.
It appeared that the offense went into protective mode upon Carr botching the early punt return. From that point on it also appeared that Auburn's offense was actually trying to slow the pace of the game down. No it wasn't just a salty State being State. Not sure how many plays we ran.
Mario Fannin is a very good receiver.
I think Moseley did a nice job filling in for Ziemba.
Nick Fairley hit for the cycle as a DT. He has always had the talent to play on Sundays. Three tackles/game and a couple of pressures are normally enough but the fumble recovery and pick makes him a legend...for one game anyway!
Teams will be picking on Neiko Thorpe after the first two games.
Was proud of the overall defensive effort but we still give too much space.
We need Craig Stevens our best cover LB. What has happened with him?
Still waiting on our deep threat, one of them anyway so Adams should get more space for medium routes.
Where is Phillip Lutchenkirchen? SP? Has he transferred to Ga State too?
And lastly.
Cam Newton has taken ownership of this offense so we will live or die by his decision making skills.
This should spark some discussion.
