Iran Nukes...What Say You?
« on: August 17, 2010, 02:00:09 PM »

This is the type of stuff that worries the crap out of me on both sides of the argument.  The issue of Iran possibly being able to create nuclear weapons sounds alarmingly like the weapons of mass destruction debate, which was supposedly one of the top reasons for starting a war that's now in it's 7th year.  No doubt that both Dumbass Hussein and now Ahmanejahdilbadidad were/are crazy enough to pull that kind of shit off.  But, is this something that the U.S. of A. needs to spearhead the fight against?  Why is it that when this is something going on in Germany's back yard...and the front doorstep of all of Europe...why are we the ones perceived as the bad guy?  Why is our fight when no one else seems to give a shit enough to do anything about it.  Lord knows, our armed forces and guys right here on this board have been put through enough when it comes to seemingly fighting the battles no one else has the coconuts to take on.

Just my thoughts.  Feel free to opine openly.

Israel Has Until Week's End to Strike Iran Nuclear Facility, Bolton Says

Israel has until the weekend to launch a military strike on Iran's first nuclear plant before the humanitarian risk of an attack becomes too great, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton said Tuesday.

A Russian company is expected to help Iran start loading nuclear fuel into its plant starting on Saturday, after which an attack on the Bushehr reactor could trigger harmful radiation, which Israel wants to avoid, Bolton said. So unless the Israelis act immediately to shut down the facility, it will be too late.

"Once it's close to the reactor ... the risk is when the reactor is attacked, there will be a release of radiation into the air," Bolton told FoxNews.com. "It's most unlikely that they would act militarily after fuel rods are loaded."

Earlier Tuesday, Bolton told Fox Business Network the Israelis will have to move in the "next eight days" if they want to attack the Bushehr facility -- a reference to the window between when the start-up was announced last week and the loading date. Bolton said Tuesday that the date has fluctuated, but he described the start-up as the ultimate deadline.

Though Iranian officials insist the reactor is for peaceful purposes, Bolton warned about the danger of the up-and-running reactor.

"It's a very, very huge victory for Iran."

Bolton, who was U.S. ambassador during the Bush administration, expressed doubt that Israel was planning a military strike but suggested it's an open question.

"If they were going to do anything, they certainly wouldn't be talking about it," he said.

He noted that the reactor gives Iran something that both Iraq and Syria were never able to achieve because their facilities were destroyed.

"Iran will have achieved something that no other opponent of Israel, no other enemy of the United States really in the Middle East has, and that is a functioning nuclear reactor," he said on Fox Business Network.

Iranian officials on Tuesday warned Israel not to take military action. Iranian media quoted Ahmad Vahidi, Iran's defense minister, as saying Israel would be taking a huge risk with such an attack.

"We may lose a power plant, but the whole existence of the Zionist regime will be jeopardized," Vahidi was quoted as saying.

The reactor project has been in existence for decades, but the Russians have helped push it to the finish line. Russian state firm Rosatom announced last week that the Bushehr facility would be starting up on Aug. 21. According to the Iranian state Mehr news agency, the head of that company, Sergey Novikov, says the plant "just generates electricity."

All I know is that the US doesn't have the stones to do anything.  I just hope we don't fuck over Israel when they defend themselves.

And it's not like MAD scares the Iranians.  They nuke Israel and then get nuked, they don't care, they're with their 75 virgins.

Nuclear Arms proliferation is a constant threat to the civilized world.  I've always had an issue with this kind of power in the hands of the criminally insane (please reference the pot-bellied dictator of North Korea).  We did nothing and have done nothing to North Korea or Pakistan for distributing this kind of materiel and support to their friends.  We did nothing to prevent them from getting it and even helped them during the Clinton years (remember Maddy Albright clinking champagne glasses with Kim Jong-il?  I do.).  The only success story is with Libya.  They did dismantle their nuclear facility under the auspices of a UN threat (backed by the US of course).  Do you think this will work with Iran?  Maybe, but The ONE won't do anything now as this kind of power is put in the hands of the mad mullahs.  The ONE loves the Muslim world, hell, I'm convinced now more than ever that he is a closet Muslim, so he will do nothing.  That leaves NATO with making some kind of decision.  Also, you can bet if Israel thinks they are threatened they will take action.  It is not unprecedented; except this time they will not have our support.

I'm all for eliminating any and all nuclear threats from the face of the earth. I just don't get why very few others around the world seem to share that concern or have the hairy hangers to jump in to do anything about it.  Why is it up to the US to force N. Korea's hand?  It's in S. Korea's lap and they don't seem to give two shits as long as the USA has troops right there to hold their hands and fight for them.  Spain has been the victim of terrorism. Why don't you see any outcry from them on Iran's nuclear threat.  France? (Don't answer that)  Whenever Ahmdamiijahididad speaks, it's the U.S he condemns.  Are we and a small handful of others the only ones that really give a flying fuck about nukes and terrorism?  And the bigger concern for me is...do we have the manpower and will to see something through like a war with Korea or even Iran with what's been happening over the last two decades?  I may be wrong, but with so many troops committed to Iraq and Afghanistan and the unwillingness of our leaders to let our soldiers fight the way they know how, the way you fight to win, I don't see the ability to lead the charge against these threats.

Let me clarify something.  My perspective does not come from a military background.  I have family members who have served multiple tours during all this and know several of you on here who have also in the Midle East and other places around the world.  I have never served and don't even pretend to know what your service or your experiences are and have been all about.  Seriously, God bless you and I raise a glass of fine bourbon (And a splash of coke) in toasting you.  I think I'm looking as much for that perspective, from those who are and have served on whether it should be us that seem to be the world's police force.  Why don't more countries get involved in serious issues like Nukes and terrorism.  And as I stated before, is our military in a position at this time to take on something like Iran and/or N. Korea?

The only success story is with Libya.  They did dismantle their nuclear facility under the auspices of a UN threat (backed by the US of course).

Amazing how much of an attitude change will take place when a few well placed cruise missiles come down your chimney, kill your kids and concubines.  He was also the first world leader to call the US on 9/11 to say "that he had nothing to do with the attacks", he started the dismantling a few months later.  Right after Saddam was found I do believe.

The only thing I can say is we best stay buddies with that little speck of a country called Israel. If Iran seriously fucks with them, Israel will open up like a canned good with millions and millions of stockpiled weaponry and blow the hell outta Aslambidadildoamigo.
