GF, make sure you do not upgrade to iOS 4.0.2, as this fixes the exploit that the jailbreakme.com website uses.  If you upgrade after jailbreaking, it will remove the jailbreaking apps you installed.

Ok...I want to do this now so I can get some of the apps over 3G and not wifi. I am running 4.2.1 and I can't just go to jailbreakme.com

Should I upgrade to the newest software and then jailbreak?

Right now, I have:
SBSettings and Install0us are the most important.

To get Install0us to work, you need AppSync for OS 4.0.

I also installed CyDelete and iPowerHour (Yes, the drinking game).

There is a hack for My3G and MyWifi, which allow you to trick your device into thinking it's on WiFi when it's on 3G, and to tether respectively. I'm not so sure about them, though. I may hold off until a legit free version of these are released, which I'm sure they will be.

Once I get this figured out, I may PM you about getting the AppStore.app off you, so maybe I can restore whatever's corrupt with mine.

I still need to do a little research first though.

MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it took hours to download. It's pretty cool.

Do you have a 3gs or a 4?  It's pretty neat on my 3gs, but I've noticed it's taking longer to switch between applications.

However, on the 4S, it's pretty quick.

Every attempt has given me an estimate of 7 hours.

4. You can't just go to jailbreakme and get it done. The redsnow, pwnage and sn0wbreeze are all pretty complicated...

Those are the only ways to do it. Jailbreakme.com hasn't worked in about 2 years. There's a new solution with each version of IOS you're using, to the decimal point. Check out http://xsellize.com/index for info on which one you've got to use for your version.

I got a 4s about 6 months ago, and I haven't had a jailbroken phone since. I kinda miss it, but I'm learning to live without it.

I should say, there's no simple way to a stable, untethered jailbreak at this time.

At least not that I know of. I haven't really been keeping up, cause until I hear that they've released a simple jailbreak, I'm not going to bother with it.

Right now, this is the only way that I know of.

http://xsellize.com/topic/180547-r-sim-unlock-iphone-4s-baseband-1014-1011-1013-ios-50-501-without-jailbreak/

And this is just to unlock your phone (meaning you can switch networks). Still don't see a legitimate jailbreak.

RedSn0w and Greenp0ison have noting on their websites for 4s still.

You done it yet? No problems?

I may go ahead and do this some time this week/weekend.

Hearing it messes up the iPod/music playing function of the phone. Any truth to that?

I still have the 4, but I have 5.01 jailbroken.  MyWi isn't what it used to be, works sporadically, but I was having that issue even with 4.31.  Other than that everything else works fine.

Wife has 4s was going to jailbreak hers, just hadn't gotten to it yet.  Will let you know.

Jailbroke the 4s last night.

The only issue I've noticed so far, which I'm working to resolve, is that it doesn't seem to connect to WiFi.

Other than that, everything appears to be golden. iPod functionality plays fine. The few little hacks & tweaks and installous programs I downloaded appear to be working.

Noticing a pretty significant battery drain.

Not sure which app/tweak I've installed that's causing it.

In case anyone cares, I rebooted my modem/router and the WiFi problem went away.

The battery problem's still a problem though.

It's dropped 33% in 40 minutes since I left work.

Granted, I've been fucking around on it, installing shit, browsing Appulous, etc.

We'll see if it's still this bad once I've settled in and am not constantly fiddling with it.

Well, naturally it will drain more since it is doing more now, clocking faster, working harder etc - but that droppff does seem a little extreme. Jailbreaking the iPhone probably puts the battery drain on par with the Incredible, Thunderbolt and other high end Droid phones. That was my only beef with Android was the battery life suxxored. I switched to the iPhone 4 last fall since I already had the iPad 2 and wanted to utilize the Cloud and streamline my music and other things. I didn't root the Android because battery already sucked and I probably won't jailbreak the iPhone for fear of battery issues. Its the one pro of iPhone that I love. If you get those issues sorted out please post.
