iPhone 4 Jailbreak
« on: August 03, 2010, 08:35:20 AM »
So yeah, my iPhone 4 Jailbreak thread was a victim of switching hosts.

Just wanted to say that everything was going great, but I have noticed that my app store is crashing when I try to download anything legit now. Don't know why that's happening. I've heard that some people who haven't jailbroken their phones may be having the same problem, but I don't know if that's true.

Jailbroke this morning, and was able to successfully install an app from the appstore as expected.

What are the essential apps you've gotten through Cydia?

Right now, I have:
SBSettings and Install0us are the most important.

To get Install0us to work, you need AppSync for OS 4.0.

I also installed CyDelete and iPowerHour (Yes, the drinking game).

There is a hack for My3G and MyWifi, which allow you to trick your device into thinking it's on WiFi when it's on 3G, and to tether respectively. I'm not so sure about them, though. I may hold off until a legit free version of these are released, which I'm sure they will be.

Once I get this figured out, I may PM you about getting the AppStore.app off you, so maybe I can restore whatever's corrupt with mine.

I still need to do a little research first though.

If you don't like every app for free and the ability to tweak your phone how you want it, then no.

Or void your warranty. Or make it easier to hack (especially if you use SSH). Or create instability within your OS. Or putting 3rd party apps on your phone that may or may not be junk. Or the inability to receive an update from Apple without losing all of your jailbreak "stuff".

Just something to think about. IF I had an iPhone, I probably would not do it.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

It's my work-provided/paid for phone so I am guessing the answer is "no".

But thanks for the comments.  Chad, you know how to do all that crayzee interwebs stuff.  If i was as tech-smart as you, then maybe I would... but I am definitely not.

Backup/Restore. No trace of jailbreak whatsoever, and you have all the apps and settings you would have if you never hacked in the first place.

Or make it easier to hack (especially if you use SSH).
Change your password from "alpine".
Quote
Or create instability within your OS.
Hasn't been a problem for me. I had my 3G hacked for over a year.
Quote
Or putting 3rd party apps on your phone that may or may not be junk.
Never once had a problem with that. Worst case scenario with the "junk", is an app that crashes, so you have to find another version. Worst-worst case scenario (that has never happened to me) is that something screws up your settings and you have to restore from a backup and rejailbreak.

Or the inability to receive an update from Apple without losing all of your jailbreak "stuff".
Better to have loved and lost...

By the way, I figured out the problem with my AppStore app.

I had it docked in SBSettings, so it was for all intents and purposes "hidden". That doesn't work for the AppStore.

Took it out of the SBSettings dock, and I'm golden.

http://www.jailbreakme.com

Go to it from your phone. It will take 2 seconds.

You're done.

There's a really good forum that can answer any questions you may have, but it is currently under a DDOS attack.

When they come back, though, I'd check out http://www.xsellize.com.

GF, make sure you do not upgrade to iOS 4.0.2, as this fixes the exploit that the jailbreakme.com website uses.  If you upgrade after jailbreaking, it will remove the jailbreaking apps you installed.

Chadskins, what cool apps do you like?  I got MyWi which is why I decided to jailbreak in the first place and I got the 3G one that lets me use face time over 3G.

I thought you had jailbroken before?

You want to add the Appulous repo (mentioned in one of the earlier posts). In fact, add all of those we talked about earlier in this thread.

Specifically for this, you want http://cydia.appulo.us.

Then download Installous.

From there you can download all the appstore apps you want.

If you have to set your own homepage (I can't remember) from Installous, use http://apptrackr.org.

I have both of those. They're awesome.

SBSettings is a must.

BiteSMS is pretty cool.

I even steal cracked versions of those apps as .deb files and install them with iFile.

Again, all that info is easy to find at XSellize, but the site's down now.
