I listened to the exhibition game against Eckerd on Friday.  These guys seem eager to start running the floor.

Thank God we don't open with Barry.  That's one bad dude.

On a totally useless and unrelated note, Austin Wiley came lumbering by our tailgate Saturday.  Talked to him for a brief second.  He's very tall.  Taller than most.

Sloppier than Snag's asshole at hour 5 of a full day "fishing charter."

They will get there...did some good things did a lot of not so good things.  Won the game against a decent opponent.  This is not the Ga. Southern football team.

BTW Tigers won.  Final 83-74

Looked like a team full of freshmen trying to figure out how to play together.  Saw a lot of promise out there though.  When they do gel, look out.  Okoro looks like a fully growed man.

Agreed, they were sloppy with turnovers especially the 1st half. Second half, much like last year, Pearl got in their ear and they made adjustments. 2nd half, they all worked much better together. Seemed more like an even flow. Like mentioned, GA So is not a slop team. They will be a nightmare for many top tier teams all season long.

3 things Auburn needs to work on.

1 - Turnovers. I think that comes with more games and working together as a team.
2 - 3 point shot. Many 3's were off target last night.
3 - Wiley. Get the ball to Wiley. He was open a good bit last night. Those are the easy buckets. Wiley looks to be in great shape.

I had to remind myself several times last night to not measure this years team on last years. There will be a different look. One thing I do know that is constant is Bruce Pearl will be relentless in making them better.

This means nothing as far as the potential success or failure of this team.  But, it's nice to watch an Auburn basketball team that looks like a bunch of full grown men.  They look like they can match up physically with anyone.  It's been forever, maybe Cliff Ellis forever, since we didn't look overmatched physically against just about anyone we stepped on the court with.  I like what Mr. Pearl has done there.

As a side note: Caught most of the second half radio broadcast. Burcham to me is a tougher transition with the basketball play by play than he is with football.
Understand it's gonna take some time for Andy to follow and call the play on the floor it's just that Rod and Sonny were such a smooth team together and I really miss how they could seamlessly describe the action as it took place.
And it was fun all at the same time.

Was only able to catch the last 10 minutes or so, but sounded like a good win.  Davidson is another quality team that is testing these youngsters early.

Purifoy seems to have not found his shot yet, but it's close.

McCormick jumped nearly out of the building late in the game.  I really like him at the point.

Beating Davidson in any given year is a quality win.  If McCormick develops a consistent outside shot, that might be a the key to how far this team can go.  He's athletic and quick as fudge. If they have to respect him on the perimeter, he could do major damage.

I'm going and haven't been this excited to attend a sporting event in a long, long time.

It's a hard sellout.  Tickets I bought for $14 a few weeks ago were going for $180 yesterday (down to $70 now).  I've got kids at South so I get their weekly emails.  They're trying to spin this as a groundswell of interest in their (supposedly) improving basketball program.  Their coach is hoping for at least a 50/50 split in Auburn and South fans.

I'm expecting a veritable sea of orange and blue, to the point that this becomes essentially an Auburn home game.  But we'll see.

I think it's gonna be fun.  If nothing else, getting to watch Bruce Pearl coach a basketball game is up there on the list.

Had intended to research how long it took Bruce to develop a solid bench last season...40 pts. v. Carolina by post season. We lack that right now. Quite a few minutes for those not used to playing so much. Know that's an excuse but it really matters moving forward.

Yes, they were pretty ready to get a T themselves. It really sounded like Sonny made it a point for a ref to hear him make mention of one of the calls.

Granted but it's also a trade off for the lack of production by two starters that underperformed.
I keep thinking Purifoy is going to become what we thought he would
be but he still disappears for long periods.
Also realize Wiley is not going to suddenly become a double/double machine but we do need him to be more consistent overall.

Players have off nights and this could have been the case for both.

Great to get any win. We started much the same last year with a few hiccups and as the season went on we might roar out to big leads only to hang on while other times we would come out ice cold and then suddenly run them out of the building.

One thing this bunch is definitely going to have to realize?   For a lot of teams, AU coming to town is their big moment.  That was the biggest game South Alabama's played since they beat Alabama in the NCAA Tournament back in 1989 (FWIW, the Jags' only NCAA Tourney win ever). It was the biggest game in the history of the Mitchell Center.  Had they won?  Highlight reel footage for the next three decades.  For AU, though?  It was just a pesky mid-week OOC game which (win or lose) won't be remembered past next week.  That's the critical difference and it honestly (IMO) showed in how the two teams treated the game and pretty much every possession.

How big was it for South?

I heard a guy coming out of the arena last night say he'd been coming to Jag games for 15 years and this was the first time he could remember having to worry about parking or traffic.

This team averages about 1600 people a game in a 10,000 capacity building.  Last night every ticket was sold. People were sitting in seats last night that had been under a tarp for probably ten years or more.

I hope South can build on that.  It's a good place to play basketball.  They've got an excitable, enthusiastic and seemingly talented young coach.  I laughed watching him shed his jacket and then take off his tie and chew a bite out of it at one point in the game.  A lot of those people who came last night had never been to a college basketball game before -- you could tell.  Maybe they'll come back.

If I had one complaint about the venue/fans? There were lots of people at the game, but I was disappointed in the number of students who showed.  I really expected to see a larger, louder student representation.

It's been a minute since an Auburn basketball team coming in was a major crowd draw.  I can't even say with any certainty that if this game had been two years ago that I would have known about it and if I had known, I'm not sure I would have gone.  We're big time now.  And we're going to get people's best.  Just like last night.

I'm going to go back to South next Tuesday to watch them demolish SpringHill. Just out of curiosity. Seven white guys coming in to get dunked on by Ifeoloua Ajayi and Trhae Mitchell.  I hope the students come back to see that.

THIS. I think not only for the AU coaches and team but also the fans we have to realize this. Seems far fetched to be honest but it is what it is now. Time to have fun with it.

BTW to answer this we should have won by at least 7-8 points.  Free throws...free throws...free throws.  Bruce really needs the boys to get it going at the charity stripe.  It was bad.  That was the worstest thing I saw.

Honestly, I thought the South Alabama coach fudgeed up, IMO when we got the ball back with 22 seconds and crossed half court I would have fouled us.

Also in response to Kaos on Wiley...I have watched all of the games, he's good, but he isn't where he needs to be on a consistent basis.

I missed one.  Both games I saw so far, he's getting beaten.  Slow reaction times.  Driving past him and he ends up fouling.

Maybe Mr. Wiley can get some good work in tomorrow against the Matadors of Cal State Northridge.  So far, those Bull Fighters are 0-3 after losing by 20 to Oregon State, 27 to New Mexico and 12 to Pepperdine.  Two of those teams scored 90+.

I really like Wiley but he's sort of our basketball answer for a blocking tight end. You can check all of the boxes with this kid from genes on down that should indicate a double/double machine but it ain't happening.

He's sort of filling the spot vacated by Horace Spencer right now as a basket defender/ rebounder. Doesn't have his "spot" on the floor where we feed him and he doesn't really possess the prerequisite jump hook that big men normally have.

I mentioned last season, if he can learn to score around the basket, he could be great.
He just does not have the ability to successfully attack the basket with the ball in his hands. He needs to attend a reputable big man camp during the off season. I do not even see him getting drafted this year at this rate.

Love the kid too. Using football terms he just hasn't got the quick twitch, hips or hands. He just plays sort of stiff and a step slow. I don't mean to be overly critical it's just an observation. He has no body fat, gigantic hands and can run till the cows come home without getting winded but he just lacks a certain vital element to make him an elite baller.

We might get 2 years out of him, I don't think he is NBA ready yet, but that might change by the end of the year.  Definitely not more than 2 though.

What a fun team to watch. We've all criticized Wiley but he is truly a silent assassin. He doesn't get enough credit for what he does. He balled tonight. Poor 3 point and free throws. Power inside and tenacious d. Wait. That sounds like a band.

That was a can of defensive whoop ass on a team that isn't terrible.  Listening to the announcers whine about NMS playing out of control and wasting possessions got a little tiresome.  Many of those wasted possessions were a direct result of defensive hustle disrupting their flow.

Hard to find much to criticize.  Went through a first-half stretch of flinging bricks, airballs and botched shots in the lane but settled down and fixed it.

I could be wrong, but I think this might be a better team overall than last year.  Talent seems evenly distributed.  I'm not saying its going to win the SEC, make the Final Four or win the NC but based on what I've seen so far I wouldn't say any of those things are completely out of the realm of possibility.

BTW?  I'm sitting here in utter amazement that the prior paragraph was written about the Auburn basketball program.

The preseason thought was that it would be hard to replace the offensive barrage of Harper and Brown but so far this lineup isn't taking us though those awful cold spells requiring 6 threes and balls to the wall pressing defense to get us back in a game.

Was concerned early on about our bench play but Coach Pearl knows when to get the right guys in and it doesn't feel as if we are losing production. That factors into lessening those scoring lulls and imo this looks like a better overall defensive team than last season.

And yes I was critical of Wiley but he has since been proving me wrong and  hope he will continue to do so.

Seems like I read somewhere (not al.com, they barely covered the game in order to breathlessly tell us all what Tinkle Tupperblowgovia will be doing during Saturday's game and how Danny Sheridan was right in saying Auburn football sucks...) BUT to get back to the topic, I read somewhere that this is the first regular season tournament title for AU since 2004.

I don't know what tournament that was, but the 2004-05 team started 5-0 before losing to Virginia, Wofford, UNLV and Toledo. It lost its first five SEC games and won a grand total of four in the league.

I don't see this bunch flopping like that.

Build the Bruce Pearl statue today.

Just a note on that 2004 team.  This was Jeff Lebo's first year.  There was one player in the rotation, Quinnel Brown, who was 6'6".  Everyone else who played that year was 6'4" and under.  They had one legit player, Tony Douglas, a guard who averaged about 17 points a game.  He immediately transferred out to, I believe, FSU.

The sad thing is that as bad as this team was, they could have actually propelled Auburn basketball towards some great things.  If you recall, when Ellis was let go and Lebo announced, they had an exodus of key players that pretty much decimated the program.  6'8" man child, Marco Killingsworth, left to go start for Indiana.  6'9" Dwayne Curtis departed for Ole Miss and was their starting center and played quite well.  6'8" Brandon Robinson took off for parts unknown.  There were a couple of others I believe as well.

Tony Douglas and the rest of that bunch weren't bad players.  They were just way overmatched physically every time the they stepped on the court.  I don't know if it was Cliff getting the boot or Lebo's magnetic personality that caused the defections.  Either way, they went from possible SEC title contenders to perennial doormats in the blink of an eye.

Wes, you jinxed us maaaan.  We had to pull that one out last night.

My biggest worries of this year Free Throws and 3's

This team thinks it's the team from last year and they aren't. We really don't need to live by the 3 like we did last year.  This team has tremendous defensive skills and really we have the size to work the shots inside.  Really hope they start to see that, because we fix those two things and we "will' be a force to be reckoned with.

While I agree let me say this. Furman is a solid solid team. They already pantsed South Carolina this year. They beat two final four teams last years from the previous years tourney including the defending national champion Nova. Should we beat them? Yes. But they are sneaky good and have a precedent for doing what almost happened last night. They aren’t scared of big boys. Credit to them - they were scrappy. Gurley and Mounce gave us fits all damn night. Add to all that, we had an awful night from behind the arc and at the stripe. Those off nights will be less than our “on” nights. I liked the fight we showed. I liked Bruce standing up for his guys in the face of many bad egregious calls and taking a T for the team. It fired them up. I liked a lot of what I saw despite the very bad play for most of the game. Take the W and onward to sec play.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if we see many of these teams Auburn has played making some noise in March. It seems several of these teams have added to their 2019/2020 with transfers from other well respected b-ball schools. The commentators have made mention of these additions especially concerning South Alabama and Furman.

If I had one critique of BP's teams, it's that more than 5 days off the court makes them look like they all just met each other.

This was the first game that I watched whistle to whistle.  Couple of things stood out to me.

Like snags said we get better at the charity stripe and this one isn't even close however free throws were neglected years ago in favor of the 3 point line.  If we hit 70%, that will be consistent with everyone else who can't shoot them either.

We are quick and hustle.  I don't recall seeing anyone lagging behind in transition from one end to the other.  That can pay big dividends over the course of the year.

We seemed to be looking for shots better last night than what I have seen before.

I saw Samir Doughty and a couple others getting chippy with the NC State fellas. The confident, stand your ground type of chippy. I like it. I'm in full believe this years version of the Bruce Pearls have that nasty grind it out attitude. I'm certain there is motivation being carried over from last years Final 4. The free throws should get better. It seems this last two games has been somewhat of a funk at the line but I want to say the team as a whole were actually pretty decent so far this year.

I'd say 51 of them are not.

Right. Only God was mentioned, not Christ. Therefore...Jews.

Against MSU, can’t buy a freaking three!

0-11 first half.
5-10 second.

But this team is relentless!

80-68 WDE!

a 3?  shoot we couldn't buy a basket. Shot 14% in the first half.  14 god damn percent!!

9 minute stretch without a point and we were only down by 6.  Amazing defense and pressure!

If this guy can continue the way he played Saturday, we'll be tough to beat for anyone.

I think that solid guard play from Harper is the biggest difference from last season to this one.  Funny how we're 13-0 and you still get the sense that we're not as good as last year.  I know that's just perception and it's based more off the incredible run they had starting with the SEC tourney.  I have to remind myself that until that run, they still weren't a lock to make the dance.  I do believe this team has more athletes overall, especially with this Freshman class.  I also believe they'll get better as McCormick gets more consistent.

I don't get that sense at all.

I actually think we're a better TEAM than we were.  Can we do better than we did last year tournament wise?  I think that's not a reasonable expectation, but I'm really encouraged.

They don't "look" as cohesive yet, but they are performing at a higher level earlier in the season.

It's just my perception based on the last memories I have of last year's squad, which was them running rough shod over the blue bloods of college basketball.  When we struggle for a half against Bumfudge U, I naturally think, well clearly we're not as good.  I know that's not realistic but they spoiled me with that run.

I think this s the difference between last season and this one.
And the bench seems to have some REALLY talented young players on it.

As we all stared early on, the key here will be Wiley and Purifoy. As odd as it seems, because neither one was really key last season.

I think we are a more athletic, more well-rounded team than we were last year.  I think some of our downfalls this year are the seniors remembering how we played last year when we lived and died by the 3, that we don't need to do that this year.  The tourney, however, is a whole nother beast, it's all about getting hot at the right time.

So while I do think this team is better than last years, we may also not make it as far as last year, we shall see.  I'm just enjoying the ride.

McCormick isn't going to need to go for 28 a game the rest of the SEC season, but he WILL be the key to how far this team can go IMNSHO.  He is the jet fuel for this G6.  The super premium unleaded for this Corvette ZR1.  The roux for this gumbo.  The Buzz for the X.  Kinda important even.

Samir too.
This is true, but Samir was a clear backup/new guy last season.
Wiley and Purify were the stars from a couple of seasons before that were expected to come back and heavily contribute. Wiley came back serviceable But Purifloy never did get into any kind of groove. With Samir and Javon, we saw flashes of what they needed to be this season as starters. And both have grown into the role very well.
I wasn't sure Purifoy would ever make it back.
I still don't see McLemore from before his injury. Maybe the team makeup is just different. But he is still a very talented senior.

Just think if Chupacabra Okeefee would have returned!

The Okoro kid is super impressive. Throw in Cambridge, Flanagan, and Johnson, that is a good looking future.

I'm just waiting for the Real Will Macoy to get hot!

Are we redshirting Babatunde?

Defense and free throws can offset poor shooting and turnovers.

Last year at this time we were 11-3.  Got blown out by Ole Miss in the SEC opener on the road.  Probably played a few better teams (Duke, Xavier, NC State) than we did this pre-league season, but the overall competition was similar or maybe better.  There were fewer St. Peter's School for Underage Nuns and Wayward Waifs on the slate.

The knock on this team is that it only has one win over a Top 50 Kenny Pomegranate (who is this clown?) team.  What I see every single time I watch them play?  A team that has the capacity to turn it on when it wants/needs/has to.

Watching the State game Saturday.  State was up eight or nine points.  We missed like eleventy nine shots in a row.  Went into the kitchen to make a drink and by the time I got back into the room? Auburn was up three.  I feel like they hit the court every single time knowing they can win.  Confidence that somebody is going to be that guy for that day.  And every one of them thinks 'why not me.'  Every game. Every time. That's exhilarating.

Is this team going to lose a game?  Sure.  Could happen when UGA comes to town.  Might happen in Tuscaloosa (shoot me, shoot me now).  Probably in Gainesville. Then we'll see what this group is made of in how it responds.  But I like a whole lot of what I see so far.

Rankings don't mean anything, but...

In the early part of the season a year ago, AU had gotten as high as eighth in the polls, but after the SEC-opening loss, dropped to 14 on this same week of the year.  There were two other SEC teams (UT and KY) ranked above us.

AU is currently fifth.  Twenty years since an Auburn team was ranked that high in the regular season. The next highest SEC team is 14th.  There is no other SEC team in the Top 25.

Know who was 13-0 and ranked fourth at this stage last season?  Correct: Eventual national champion Virginia.

Title: Re: 2019-2020 Official Auburn Hoops Thread (with no official aspirations)

I’ve heard that “stretch” had some visa issues in the offseason and got stuck in Nigeria. Thus got behind in conditioning and practice. This actually came from a source that would know first hand.

I don’t get to use the drill press phone often. But when I do. It’s actually correct.

He one and done bro.

Draft analysts have him going around 19 to the Heat.

Somebody needs to stand McCormick at the stripe and do nothing but shoot free throws all day. He is 50% on the season. There are only 3 Auburn players above 70% at the stripe currently.

Damn it.  We've become Kentucky, Duke and Kansas all rolled into one.

Face it, we're a basketball school.

Yes. Oddly enough, he has been the most consistent it seems. He was one that has had troubles at the line. The boy has put in the work.

Looks like he's enjoying the game finally too.  Buckle up and enjoy the ride, boys.  The Orange Pearl is about to set sail.

I'm a little less sold than I was a game ago.  Should have run Vandy out of the building.  Didn't for reasons I can't fathom.

Still think we're a pretty solid team but that whole Top 5 thing is questionable.

I also wonder which of you fathered these kids:

The roof raiser is problematic, but Jack Black playing College Student Fattie from that mock Tropic Thunder movie trailer is the worst.

There was a young lady they showed around the 1:00 mark in the game -- dark hair, toboggan -- that was quite nice, though.  If she's one of your daughters I apologize for railing her in my sleep.

Vandy is vastly improved over last season and they feature the SEC's leading scorer.  With all our defensive attention on Nesmith, Amp Lee's kid went ham.

Never felt like we were in trouble, just couldn't put the game away decisively.

Draft analysts have him going around 19 to the Heat.

Gonna' be a lot of games like last night.  Defense will keep us in every game but we'll drop our share with the points we leave on the FT line.  While there's no dominant teams in the SEC (Outside of the Fighting Pearls) there's definitely a lot of talent throughout the league.  Not going to be many easy outs in conference play.

I thought raise the roof kid was Ogre's?  Being a ginger and all.   Pretty sure the fat kid with the jersey on is Nook's kid.  That's probably the same expression Nook makes when he is out of the good Pacific NW green. Pretty sure that Snaggs Daughter is the one in the purple denying the advances of the arm hug from the young gentleman beside her.  Buzz is the kid whose mind is blown yours or simps?  I'm going with simps since all his kids can fill up over half the student section.

Pretty good analysis I believe except mine that age would be the one directly behind Ogres kid with that goofy facial expression and hat gesture. Not because of the Okoro slam either. He just realized his homeboi was denied by Snaggs daughter.

There will be many more bumps with a long way to go in the season. This team has a number of flaws.  The key is getting them gellin' like a felon as the season winds towards tourney time.  I just find it nice to have such a competitive team after decades of bottom dwelling.

what the nutless dcp drinker said ^^

and no one minds this. We know it will happen.

But to lose to that bunch of street ball thugs in that manner? No. Lose to Kentucky or ark? I get that. Good teams. Good talent. Good coaching.

Last night? That bunch of turnip headed thugs playing that style of ball with almost zero bounds from the zebras? It’s near damn impossible to win. It didn’t sit well. I feel like our guys were not prepared for that “style” of aggressive play. Here is hoping we can counterpunch at home against them knowing it’s coming.

I do feel like they did need a return to earth game.  Our play in the first half has been atrocious but we have been able to overcome.

Like Uncle Sani said sucks it was to the booger eaters.

My daughter knows nothing about basketball.  She watched it last night because she wants to understand why basketball been making me happy I guess.

So she calls with like 10 minutes left in the game.  Her take?

"Ok, so I don't understand free throw rules.  Does the home team get to shoot them every time they have the ball?  That doesn't really seem fair."

So I tried to explain the concept of fouls.

"I still don't get it.  If Auburn players touch them at all, that's a foul but their players can push Auburn players and it's not?  This is a stupid game."

Couldn't disagree last night.  Every time we cut their lead under five we'd either do something stupid (lazy pass, ill-conceived heave), they'd mug us and get no call or we'd get hit with a charge, a screen violation or something.  If we'd broken on top just once that ragamuffin bunch of punk ass bitches would have folded.  You could see it every single time it got close.  They were just waiting to collapse.

Yeah, about half of our problem was lazy, sloppy play but we were definitely getting handcuffed by the zebras. They made sure we never got there.

The one thing that really disturbed me was the number of shots in close that were missed.  Most were too strong.  Layups, dunks, putbacks...  I think we were under 50% on those.  Hit some of that easy shoot and it's a different game.

what the nutless dcp drinker said ^^

and no one minds this.

Way off topic, but next year could be very interesting depending on how Pearl finishes in recruiting.  Looking at the roster, we have 7 seniors.  If Okoro does turn out to be a one-and-done, we have 8 slots to fill.  Right now, there are 3 commits, one of which is 5 star point guard, Sharife Cooper.  The other two are a 6'7" forward and a 6'5" shooting guard out of Kentucky, Justin Powell.  Both are 3 star players.

The names and faces will be a big change, but if Pearl continues to recruit like has in recent years, AU round ballz should be fun to watch for quite a while.

"I still don't get it.  If Auburn players touch them at all, that's a foul but their players can push Auburn players and it's not?  This is a stupid game."
I tried to be objective and NOT be that fan, but I cannot disagree with her. The touch fouls were pretty bad. Almost phantom like at times. BOTH of our guards fouled out. When is the last time that happened?
And several times the same type of fouls occurred while we were driving to the basket and nothing, zero, zilch.
If we hit half of those free throws, we are ahead. It was a bad game all around. I stated before this game, bamturd's three point shooting could get hot and burn us. I didn't think ours would be that putrid though. Couple that with what? 19 turnovers, and you can't climb out of that hole.
In the end, we will still be standing. They will be lucky to make the SEC tourney.

Another thing that hurt so bad was, this was the first time we had lost to the turds in ANY sport for over a year, I believe.

Walked in, stood there silently for a minute or two.  Looked around the room.

I can't remember the exact wording but he said just one sentence.  It was either "we can play better than that" or "we are going to play better than that"  or just "we are better than that."

Turned and walked out.

So, once again the good guys flex at home (though they got sloppy in the last 3 mins) and now have to leave the cozy confines of Auburn Arena.

I haven't watched OM play (or really heard much about their team this year) but they're 10-9 and 11th in the SEC.

Notable wins: Pedo St and UGA

Notable losses: Memphis, Butler, Wichita St, TexA&M, UF, LSU, Tenn and Ark.

If ever there was a game to shake the road-yips, this one looks like it.

Auburn basketball on the road in the SEC:

Tonight's game was painful to watch.  It was a win, a 2 OT win over a pretty bad Ole Miss team by a single point, but it was a win.  A win plagued by disjointed, dispassionate play but a win.  A win that looked at times like they were trying to shoot peach pits, but a win.

Ill-advised shots at ill-advised times.  And still. A win. Some of the most egregious home-cooking I've ever seen from the refs. Constant Rebel walking went uncalled. Numerous out-of-bounds awards that should have gone AU's way didn't.  Their kid with the alopecia face (or whatever) went to the foul line if somebody looked at him, we were getting mugged and raped at the other end with no call.  And still. A win.

I hope there were some lessons learned.  Maybe we grow from it.

BTW, I'm taking credit for the win.  Were behind, badly, and playing like ass when I turned it on.  Things changed for the better once I was assisting from my living room.

That's the kind of win that can spark a run.  Unless it doesn't.

Since the game was on Da U, I had to listen to it on the Auburn app (thanks Spectrum).  I have never heard Andy get so mad as I did last night.  I came to expect that from Sonny and Rod, so always took it with a grain of salt.  But when Burcham starts tearing into the refs, you gotta believe they were teh suck.

BTW, Rectum is horrible.  I switched about a year ago when my WOW cable bill had ballooned to about $250/mo.  (Phone/cable/interwebz)  Dropped the phones and went with the webz/cable through Rectum for about $175.00. Since then, they've dropped some premium channels and jumped to almost $230/mo.  No explanation, just this is what we're doing. Enjoy the ride.

I have no clue if the channel numbers change depending on your region, but I found Da U on 89.

Funny you say that.  Just last week, I called and asked for the retention department, telling them that I was planning to drop the cablez because it is so outrageous.  Our bill for everything was right at $230 also.  The nice lady on there told me that I get the dumbass...um, I mean the long timer discount and chopped $35 a month off my bill for a year.  Guess I'll be calling her back in a year.  But with teh basic plan, I have never had ESPNU, ESPNNEWS or CBSSN.

My package with WOW didn't have any of the HBO's and Showtimes etc.  The Rectum package has/had it all.  I thought, "Oh good, Skinemax.  I get to watch cheap, late night sexes."  It was on there a week and poof...gone. I assume Cinemax still exists.  Not on my cable, though.

This team will be the cause of many an ulcer!

Like Buzz, I couldn't find the game on the 2,583, mostly useless channels I have through Rectum TV.  But the truth is, I didn't search real hard because the first time I checked my phone, we were down like 15-2.  I kept checking and it was always double digit deficits.  Then it was 7.  Then it was down to 3.  Then I started searching, found it and watched the finish and two overtimes.

The reality is, unless they're in the tourney, I rarely want to watch a full game because of what CCT said.  Ear-regardless of the fact that they're 18-2, this team will, and always has given me ulcers and caniption fits.  I usually wind up watching a half or less.  Football is different.  You have 12 games, 3 or 4 of which are usually no stress situations.  Each one is an even in it's own right, whether I'm at the game or having people over to cookout and watch.  Tuning in on a Tuesday night to see them fumble-fudge their way to a 19 point deficit makes me ill.

Was great to see Samir get his groove back, definitely need him producing in the meat of the schedule.

Not sure why anyone is surprised. Auburn (I think???) leads the country in FT Attempts. We drive the basket a lot and get a lot of offensive rebounds.

Great win against the Cats.  That's 2 in a row against them, which never happens.

I haven't seen the latest polls to see where we are currently.  But, the lack of respect for what this bunch has done is bordering on ridiculous.  After going 16-0 and being one double dribble call from playing for the MNC last year, we were grudgingly moved up to #6.  Two road losses, one of which was to Florida, an extremely tough place for anybody to win, we were dropped 10 places to #16.  A win at home and a win on the road and we go to 18-2. Our reward?  Dropped to #17.  I'm just wondering if a win over #13 Kentucky will get us punted from the top 25.

BTW, going into the Kentucky game, there were 11 teams ahead of us with more losses.

It's Ear-regardless.  What a maroon!

I don't have a problem taking a hit for those two losses.  What I do have a problem with is the following:

Teams currently ahead of 19-2 Auburn:

Duke 3 losses, including one at home to Stephen F. Austin.  Lost at home to Louisville and lost on the road to unranked Clemson.

Villanova 4 losses

West Virginia 4

Maryland 4

Seton Hall 5

Butler  5

Michigan State 6

When we hit our 4th loss, the only place you'll find our name is "Others receiving votes".

This is such a scrappy team, for lack of a better term.  There's no one that stands out to where you think, "Well, if this guy gets hot, he can carry us."  Samir Doubt Me is the most productive overall, but he's wildly inconsistent.  Okoro looks NBA ready one game, then like a true freshman the next.  Wiley frustrates you because he looks like he just can't get over the hump and realize all that potential that goes with a 6'11" 250 pound frame.  But he gives you enough.  Same with so many players on this team.  I guess it's kind of the sum of all parts.  It works.  And it works to the tune of 20-2.

Last night was huge IMO.  Just as big as taking down UK.  If you had said we go on the road to Arky and they have a guy go ape shoot crazy for 40, I'd have said, okay 19-3.  Let's get ready for the Fighting Basketball Burrows this weekend.

If you'd told me 3-0 over Kentucky, at Arkansas and LSU I'd have said no freaking way.

And then we did.

PS:
We beat Kentucky and they move UP three spots in the poll to 12.  We beat Kentucky, LSU, Arkansas (on the road) and stay right where we were at 11.

I hope this is used as motivation.

Duke barely skates by a terrible UNC team - some arguing they shouldn't have won - and they'll be the new number 1 by next Sunday. Same with Kansas. The blue blood sucking off in BB in worse than Football.

It sickens me to say this, but I don't want to see them again.

Of course the chance that they'd hit 841 threes again is slim, but still.

I despise that team.

Damn these cardiac kids.  I wish for once we would blow the cousin grinders out and I thought going up 16-0 in the beginning we might, but how do you account for them making 22 three point shots?
As per usual our free throw shooting was abysmal but not as bad as theirs.

Bama is a weird team.  They're firmly entrenched in the middle of the pack (13-11; 5-6) and, as of now, aren't even in the tournament discussion.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet, they are a real pain in the ass to play.  I have to agree with Kaos, I don't want to play them any more this season.

I was giddy when Petty got that 3rd foul pretty early...then figured we had it locked when he picked up his 4th.  And then there was that motherfudgeer hitting the tying shot.  fudge him.  Hard.

Man, fudge Petty.  And double fudge Club Jones or whatever that one-handed asshole's name was.

I get Bruce's strategy.  We tried to play them man in Tuscaloosa and they out-quicked us. It got away and never got back. Learned from that and went to a zone.  The idea was that if you beat us, you'll have to do it heaving threes.  We did exactly that.  But if you let them throw up sixty of the motherfudgeers?  Even if they're only hitting 30% that's 18 made and 54 points.  They hit almost 40% which is as strange as it seems, right at the national average (37.7%).

Ours was a good plan until they attempted 450 threes.  As much as it makes me want to vomit, so was Bama's.  During the 16-0 run, they saw we weren't letting them get away with the same shoot as last time, so they just started heaving from the perimeter.  The one thing I think we were lacking was getting a body on the shooter, particularly from the corner.  We didn't move to the ball quite as quickly as I thought maybe we should.

Another thing that fudgeed us was the refs.  I noticed a decidedly different  tenor in their calls once the students started chanting "Refs, you SUCK" over and over and over.  I nearly lost my shoot when they called Okoro for a charge when the Bama guy was literally running into his side as he drove the basket.  he hadn't established position and was actually trying to squeeze by one of his own teammates at the time.  That was complete and total bullshoot.  So was the charge when the guy was back in the hole.  I didn't appreciate their effort much at all.

This morning, I am grateful for Austin Wiley.  He made some big plays at critical times, particularly in the first half.  I just wish his hands were better.  He fumbled half a dozen or more rebounds out of bounds because he lost control of the ball.  It frustrates the absolute fudge out of me when I see him out at the top of the key taking a pass.  Against that ragamuffin pack of fudgeholes we should have been pushing him inside over and over and over again.

I will say this.  If they hadn't started hitting the threes when they did?  That strategy would have failed for lack of confidence and we would have beaten them by 20+.

I won't say what kind of team they are like, but you know.  You've played against them or seen them play. Boom or bust, based entirely on emotion and momentum.  Not a good team, but could get that swag going and play with anybody.

If you'd told me they were going to attempt 60 threes?  I'd have figured we won by half a hundred.

19 of 20 times doing that? You WOULD win by half a hundred.  Like you said it’s a great strategy for pulling a few upsets. And nothing more.

But it ain’t gonna get you to the tourney. It’s the equal to Mike leach style in football.

This Mizzou game is a cluster.
No Okoro and Cambridge decides to be a dumbass and get tossed!

Need more discipline from the young guys.

That was ugly.
85-73 loss.

We have no answer for Okoro being out.

And I think we only made 1 3-pointer. ONE!

On a bright note, Wiley had a great game. A double-double. 22 points 10 rebounds.

Take a look at the total fouls called!

I get that we need Okoro.  And that we have a great class coming.  I'm not disillusioned.

However.

You're not going to win many games in the SEC shooting 3.4% from the field and scoring under 60 points.

Watching us lay brick after brick last night -- enough bricks to build our glorious president's wall ten times over -- caused me to fling my phone across the back yard.   When that one cat who's never attempted a three in his career launched a flat-line turkey when we'd cut the lead to two or three late?  And then they thrashed a fast-break score and in a blink were back up seven?  Bye, phonelicia.

We will make the tournament.  We will not win the SEC or advance very far.  But that's ok.  Expectations cause angst.

We had a bad night.  It happens.

I don't understand why it happened against two of the shoottiest teams we'll play this season.  Nobody loses to Georgia and fudgeing Mizzou.

Defense is, for the most part, pretty solid.  I'm fine with the offense we run -- except for seeing Wiley out at the top of the line getting a pass.  When the guy best able to handle him went out for nine minutes due to fouls Wiley should never have moved more than six feet from the basket in any direction.  He needs to learn to be like Barkley and use that big ass to back people up and own his space.

Also don't really get why the bricks pile up.  The threes weren't even close.  Clanging off the side of the backboard, missing everything but the fan in the third row, smacking the side of the rim so hard it clangs, slamming off the backboard and recoiling out past the free throw line.   That was some ugly ass shoot.

Stats don't show it but....The young ones are starting to show why the were recruited. Hopefully they keep the confidence through the tourneys. Oh. Wiley is a beast and more so if he could get fouls called against him.

Did dook win tonight? Asking for a friend.
In a word, you just shut up, okay?

Yeah, my Dookies got punked again.  Honestly, not trying to downplay it, but it's not like it used to be.  Duke has become one of the poster chidrenz for one-and-done.  I don't recognize anyone on the roster most years and don't really care to try, knowing they most likely won't be there the next year. I still pull for them, though.

On a note from the post game, Wake Forest had a guard that had him a career night and stuck a fork in the Devils.  They interviewed him after the game and he pulled that crap we've all heard countless times over the years.

"This means so much after everything I've been through.  Everybody telling me I couldn't do it.  Everybody saying I couldn't play at this level....."

Horse...Freakin'...shoot!!!  Not one damn soul has ever told you that you couldn't play D1 basketball.

Look, I got a scholarship offer to Wake Forest.  I'm gonna' play in the ACC.

Whoa, whoa, whoooooaa...... slow ya' roll there cowboy.  You do realize you're not good enough to play, right?  Are you stupid or what?

Definitely agree with this.  Jaylen Williams seeing some time on the floor is NOICE.

I loved the gameplan last night: attack the rim and dish to Wiley if you can/need to.  McCormick could make a living on that no-look pass under the basket if he'd just go to it more.

Happens more than you think.  I know a girl who is a junior, had been on several unofficial visits, and one official visit, to multiple D1 schools, but in the girls equivalent of Rivals, they call her a "mid-d2 prospect."

Seems to be the product of the other 4 on the floor though.  When Mac is in there, his guy has to step out to at least pretend to guard the 3.  When it's How do you do?  His guy can stay packed right there in the middle of the lane...which makes it like 18/67th or 75% harder for 'ol #5 to slide right down the lane.

Team might make the 32 or even 16 if lucky horseshoes glow bright, but this has the look of a 5 that gets bounced by a 12 to start the tourney. Future is still bright (pending NCAA hammering, that is).

At the beginning I said we might be a better team overall but post a worse result.

Exact opposite.  Not as good a team top to bottom, but put up the results.

Anybody remember going to Kentucky last season?  Had already lost eight games when we got there (Feb 23) and got the shoot pushed in 80-53.

This team scrapped its ass off in Rupp Saturday.  Should have, could have won.  I was happy with the effort, proud that they were pissed not to win.  That's refreshing.

I'm mystified at how we went from fantastic at the threes to god GOD, don't do that seemingly overnight and I'm frustrated at the complete inability to hit free throws when we really, really need them.  Shot 12% from three point land in the second half. Missed nine free throws.  That's not negativity, it's just a fact.

Kentucky had 27 points just from free throws (AU only attempted 22 of them all night) and that was the difference in the game.

Was it home cooked?  Sure.  But we got our own version of the same dish when we played them in Auburn.

I'm down on the status and future of football program.  I have zero confidence in Gus to do anything but investigate his own rectum. I think he's a decent guy, don't think he's dishonest.  Think he wants to do well, but as I've said for years (literally) he simply does not have the resume and experience to effectively manage that job.  His decision-making can be absurd. The flip-flops between taking control and letting his people run are cookie-cutter examples of new managers struggling to do simple things.  It's like Jim on The Office setting up a group birthday for the month.  Rookie mistake.  He keeps making them.  Not because he isn't trying, but because he just doesn't know any better and has ZERO sources for consultation.  Chad Morris?  fudge me with a blood-stained spoon.  Really?  I'm still bitter over that bonehead move.

But I'm not down on this basketball team.  Don't think I will be as long as Bruce Pearl is there.

fudge the NCAA. Why even invoke that shoot.  It's like Candyman.  Stop saying it.

What a clusterfudge of an officiating performance.
On top of some incredibly crappy calls, the two technicals really changed the whole complexion of the game.  They had the momentum back but then had to play catch up the rest of the way and didn't have the magic at the end like they have so many times before.

To me, the biggest problem was once again, the first half.  After a 12-1 start, I think they only had about 15 points the rest of the way.  A&M was playing tenacious D, but we had no answer for it.  No screens to get people open.  McCormick couldn't beat anyone off the dribble and we kept needlessly turning it over time after time.  Not that we were in a huge hole, what 7 at the half?  But you just can't keep expecting to turn it on in the second half.

On two side notes, to A&M's credit, that man-child Nebo, killed us inside.  His game was skrong.  And, I will concur with my esteemed game texting colleagues, GF and GH.....who was that bitch doing the color?  Please just put a huge sausage in your mouth and have a warm cup of STFU.

At one point, after McCormick had the ball just taken from his hand, I started to wonder if we had another point shaver.

As for the color broadcaster, Brooke Weisbrod, I like her.  She's still pretty green, but a goddamned sight more pleasant to listen to than Beth Mowins.

Double-bye in the conference tourney...good or bad?

Fresh legs are nice, but these guys need all the reps they can get as it still appears to be a work in progress.

Sweet Sixteen?  First round bounce?  How deep do they go?

Reps will not improve them at this point. Rest will. In fact, some of their woes are most likely due to some physical (and mental) fatigue.

That UT team had just beaten Kentucky in Rupp, so it was a really good win.  Plus, it gives them a little mojo back after dropping a couple.  I think this bunch could get a couple of wins in the tourney.  To me, the difference right now is Wiley.  He's playing like a decent big man for the first time in his career.

I'd hate to see the season end, but anything that happens from this point on?  Just frosting.

Before this season we lost Chuma, Bryce, Jared, Dunbar, Spencer AND Cole Blackstock.  Sixty-seven percent of our offense left with that bunch.

We were picked to finish fourth in the league.  Finished second.

Beat every team in the SEC at least once except Missouri and Florida (I think).

Had a NCAA berth wrapped up by Christmas, essentially.

Never quit fighting.  Down 17? Pffft. Who cares. They're coming back.

Building a reputation for having the country's best basketball atmosphere.

I'm happy with where the program is overall. I'm happy with the potential we have coming in for next year.

Whatever these kids do from this point on?  I'm going to remember them with a smile.  Played without selfishness, for each other and for the fans.

If one or 2 of Samir/Purifoy/Cambridge/McCormick gets hot from 3 in the tourney, I could see this group make another Final 4 run.  If none of them get hot, I could see a 1st or 2nd round exit.  Fully agree with Kaos and Notorious W.E.S. that I am pretty happy either way.  This team played waaaaaay over their heads most of the season.

The future is bright...and not the canned sun bed kinda sunlight Gus is piping in.  This group of Seniors will leave a huge legacy and a huge hole that hopefully can be filled in with young talent next season.

If there are truly redemption stories, this team will win it all.

Georgia was 15-16 overall and 5-13 in conference.

Arkansas was 19-12 overall 7-11 in conference.  Mason Jones of Arky was the leading scorer in the SEC.  Apparently, Edwards had a couple of thunderous dunks.  Whatever.

As for Calamari, absolute BS.  When your roster is made up of one-and-done, McDonald's All-Americans every single year, you need to do something extra special to even get consideration for COY.

About where I am. Were some parts frustrating? Of course. But this team really became what we thought they were to start the season. They lost a TON of leadership with the ones you mentioned. Guys that were bench players the last year or two became "the guy" this year. They grew up a lot, and also struggled a lot. But no quit - i like that. Something Tony Barbie Doll never instilled. Lot of underclassmen played, including freshmen.

The records don't reflect it well but there is a ton of talent in this conf.

A team like A&M being around .500 bewilders me as good as they are on coaching and talent. Ole Miss has a lethal scorer. FUGA has the #1 overall pick in the draft. Auburn has the #3 overall pick in the draft. The guy from Vandy that went down at the start of the conf season is NBA worthy (and It tanked their season). Bama - I want no more of those jackholes and their record breaking 3's. Tenn has a TON of talent....and a good coach. Kentucky is Kentucky still. Florida gets boocoodles of top national players. SC pulls upsets left and right. Ark was very good for most of the year. Same with LSU. There is just no safe "out" in this league now. Not even Vandy.

Its why we read the conf standings like this from 2nd to 11th:

12-6
12-6
11-7
11-7
10-8
10-8
9-9
8-10
7-11
7-11

Georgia was 15-16 overall and 5-13 in conference.

Arkansas was 19-12 overall 7-11 in conference.  Mason Jones of Arky was the leading scorer in the SEC.  Apparently, Edwards had a couple of thunderous dunks.  Whatever.

Look I know he is old and worried about Landsharkvirus, but we can't let him get away with "fake news". y'all are better than that. Especially, for the self-proclaimed dookie lover.

Just so you are aware Mr. Biden Snaggle, Weskie said Edwards didn't deserve Freshman of the Year. Not Player of the Year, Mason Jones is not a freshman.  Weskie was, I believe, equating Edwards winning it over our own beloved Okoro.

Thanks to SEC Network going all-Auburn all day, I'm sitting here watching Auburn dismantle Tennessee in the SEC Championship last year.

I loved that team.  God did I love it.

If we don't build a statue for Bruce Pearl.....

I'm on board for the statue as long as it isn't done by the same person that did Lord sheriff Taylor in Tuscaloosa.

They already hired that guy.

Here's his first rendering of the Bruce Pearl tribute.
